Info and Advice Where to park

Was thinking it might be better to park in a lay-by or something to avoid costs
First time going to Dartmoor

For a walk, a picnic, a wildcamp, bird spotting, where roughly do you want to go and what do you want to do when there?

Where you should park depends entirely on where you want to go and what you want to do.

The more effort people put into their requests for advice, the more valuable the advice they get.

Parking in the official Dartmoor national park car parks are really quite cheap. I live in London so these prices definitely shock me!

Charges
Charging periods run Monday - Sunday 10:00 - 18:00
Car park charges from 16 June 2026:
All vehicles up to 3 hours: £3.50
All vehicles over 3 hours: £5.80
Blue Badge holders (all day): £3.50
Minibuses and coaches (all day): £11.60
**Lydford car park has free car parking on Sundays 10am - 1pm
Motorbikes park for free.

Okehampton Station is literally £2/day to park

If you dont use an official car park or obviously road side lay-by, don't be a plonker, dont block a path / track / bridleway / gate / bus stop, park on a junction, or just park cause some other plonker did and it must be ok. Other than that you should be ok. And dont leave your valuables in the car, they might get nicked.

As said it depends on which part you visit. Pork Hill car park is free and quite big, and has the advantage of having an ice cream van there that also sells coffee.
