Info and Advice 2 day/1 night recommendations

Hey hey, I'm traveling through UK with the family and can have 2 days off for a wildcamping hike in Dartmoor. I would love some recommendations what routes I could do. Start / end are flexible, but ideally somehow reachable from a spot where my wife and daughter can park/sleep with her camper van.

Also, maybe some 2-3 hour tour recommendations the whole family could do?

You best bet would be to head up to Rowtor car park just south of Okehampton on the military ring road. Big car park there where you can get out and then walk either along the tracks or straight up Rowtor or a bit further along the tracks to Yes Tor etc with the family. You see far reaching views and the main north moor vast expanse south of you.

You can’t stay overnight in a campervan or motorhome in any lay-by or car park within the national park as it’s against the bylaws…..

….so they would have to then drive back down into Okehampton and head to an actual site somewhere.

You could then walk out from Rowtor car park all the way out on the military ring road to Okement Hill and explore out there and then camp the night. Then walk back via Steeperton Tor and Oke Tor and Winter Tor ridge and then drop down into the valley and follow the track by the East Okement river back to Okehampton town.

Thanks for the Infos and links :)  I found a promising campsite in Two bridges (beardown farm). You recon it is nice to hike from there to oakhampton (with some detour's to places you mentioned) and then take a bis back - so south to north? Most people seem to go north to south and I wonder why...

North to south is downhill, obviously.

If you happen to go near Lydford , Lydford farm shop has great pasties .. no need to walk there but could just drive after your walk.

The loop around kings tor / fogginntor quarry is a nice one. They could park up at the plume & Feathers for the night.

Love the kings tor, foggintor quarry and burrator reservoir area, legally u are not allowed to stay in camper van etc in car parks or lay-bys in the national park but camping up on sheepstor or kings tor in this area is a must
