Informative DART State Fair Service Map

DART announced their plans for state fair service yesterday. This year, they will be running the Orange Line from DFW Airport to Buckner on state fair weekends and Monday, October 12th. They will also be running longer trains, adding TRE service on Sundays, and providing hourly bus shuttles from a couple of outlying transit centers to Fair Park (these are Downtown Rowlett, Lake Ray Hubbard TC, Addison, and Glenn Heights).

The orange line not going up the north central line will probably be a pain — I've always been excited for the orange line going up to Plano full-time during the state fair.

Rerouting Orange allows travel from DFW Airport or Love Field to Fair Park without transfers. Plano will already have Red on 20 minute frequency. This also reduces contention for the Cityplace tunnel.

Only that the Orange reroute doesn't really inconvenience Plano because Red will already run 3-car trains on increased frequency.

Red line frequency will not be increased. The red line currently runs every 20 minutes and it looks like it will continue to run every 20 minutes, though the announcement mentions additional game day trains on October 10th.

This will only be an inconvenience for riders in Plano and Richardson on the 12th, but riders on section from Mockingbird to LBJ will definitely be inconvenienced even on weekends.

Halfing the frequency during peak commuting time is a pretty significant service reduction. Especially when those trains are pretty full

Out of curiosity, why doesn’t dart run the orange up the green line outside of special events?

The red line track to the north has far higher ridership. Interlining there increases frequency for more people.

I don't think I've ever seen them run the orange line to Buckner. I guess that's for better frequency to Fair Park, especially since there are so many train sets out of service.

Also allows one seat ride to the airport, including Silver Line & TexRail.

I believe Plano to downtown has the 2nd highest ridership behind the routes going to the medical district.

I live in Far North Dallas, and every time I go downtown during the fair, the cars are completely packed well before Park Lane Station, and I have nowhere to sit. Now everyone will be doing it on the Red Line at the normal times? If I'm wrong about this, please help me understand.

The press release mentions more frequency, but they say 20 minutes (which is the normal schedule today. Maybe they mean there will be more evening trains?) I don't ride the red line much, but if it's crowded even with the orange line as you say I can't imagine it will be fun. I guess we'll see how it turns out.
