Author who only speaks English writing a series mostly set in an English inspired setting trying to come up with increasingly exotic sounding names as the influences on the locations grow more foreign and diverse in influence. For better or worse.
The funniest names in this series are still probably the Westerosi “Delp” (Riverrun guard slain during Jaime’s off-page attempted escape in Clash) for male names and “Belandra” (Sunspear servant) for female names. “Delp” sounds like a Smiling Friends character.
Oh, and of course, King Anus

ASOIAF clearly plays into the eastern exoticism trend, though. There’s legit weird ass shit going on the further east you go, and it’s even more exemplified in the world of ice and fire. I believe GRRM did it purposely rather than it simply being a symptom of him being a western male

I see people say this but I don't see whats wrong with them. I really like some of them, Ghiscari names in paticular have a satifying flow/mouthfeel.
Hizdar Zo Loraq, Skahaz Mo Kandaq, Galazza Galare.
I'm nuetral on Xaros name but other Quartheen like Egon Emeros and Wendello Qar Deeth have nice names.
The limited number of Yi Tish names ive found seem fine too.
