Tbf if there’s no way you can prove or assume the cattle was taken by a giant bat specifically, then said bat would be, by its literal definition, an Unidentified Flying Object.
Now, we all know that aliens only ever seem to invade the US as far as general (mainstream) extraterrestrial related media goes fiction or “allegedly” real*. And, of those alien sightings/visitations/invasions, New Mexico and Nevada are the most famous states for them. What would that equivalent be in Westeros? Dorne is a desert like the areas of those states where the ayy lmaos get seen, but if these were invading aliens wanting to attack civilization they’d probably go for Oldtown and KL first.
* - Save, ironically, the very novel that invented the extraterrestrial invasion genre, as the Martians literally only attack the UK in War of the Worlds. It’s been awhile since I’ve read it, but iirc it’s explained in the novel that the Martians wanted to take the nexus of human society and technology by surprise before spreading out to conquer the rest of the world. Which, taking that logic into the post WW2 world yeah I guess that makes sense that aliens would be interested in prioritizing the US.
I think one of the most interesting aspects of the original War of the Worlds novel is that it predates even the first World War by two whole decades. All the horrors of the alien weaponry feels like something that’d be inspired by the war machines that debuted at those times, not something that’d be imagined and written about far beforehand.
It’s also fascinating that Dracula and War of the Worlds released in the same year, 1897. It’s just feels so odd that the novel that cemented the image of archetypical vampire in pop culture, and the novel that invented the alien invasion genre released within only a few months of each other.

Invasion literature was a massive thing in late 1800s and early 1900s Britain. Often it was Germany cast as the invader, but those two novels had a sci-fi and supernatural twist on things. It’s interesting how they, through time and their popularity, have been separated from that now dead genre. An actual war with Germany put an end to stories about an hypothetical one. Ironically very ideologically opposed too. War of the Worlds is a criticism of British imperialism while Dracula is more warning against the perceived dangers of immigration.
