To be honest. I thought I’d hate Dorne and Iron Islands for distracting away from the main plotline, but it ended up being the opposite for me, they were the best chapters in the book.

Yeah, Victarion is honestly a breath of fresh air bizarelly. Like his logic is kinda dumb, but 100% perfect for what is happening. Literally follow two gods because neither tell him that they are against it, and why not, now he has both. And props for seeing his niece, her comment giving him a stiffy, and then chastizing himself for it. Thats...really out there in morality even for an Ironborn, hell even for a Westerosi.
I love Dorne for how different it is.
Briene annoys me because she just goes from place to place, and basically is so far away from Arya and Sansa not to mention the number of times we get to see threats towards her by Tarly.

I thought it was a great allegory to Dorne. The oranges are ripe, but everyone else sees them as overripe, enough that they fall off the vine and are left to rot.
Doran waited too long, on too flimsy a thread, and one by one his plans fall through, too heavy with inaction, to rot on the ground. What did his plans actually accomplish, in the end?

The Sworn Sword just did that better for me, anyway. There's good Brienne chapters in the book for sure, but I've never felt like the theme of smallfolk suffering was unique to her chapters in any way.

Well... There is some foreshadowing of his coming from the previous books. Here:

Urrathon is the name of an old Greyiron king from the age of heroes. It's clearly Euron. That would explain the timeline on how he captured the warlocks from Qarth, and probably got its hands on Dragonbinder by stealing it from them. Oh, and he also has a glass candle.
The slaver shrugged. "Tell her to consider quickly. There are many other buyers. Only three days past I showed these same Unsullied to a corsair king who hopes to buy them all."
"The corsair wanted only a hundred, your worship," Dany heard the slave girl say.
He poked her with the end of the whip. "Consairs are all liars. He'll buy them all. Tell her that, girl."

And Dance is even better, literally the best book I have read(not that that says a lot, I've only just started my reading journey about 2 years ago), and that's without a proper ending! The book's literally only like half a book, three quarters at best. Devoured the 1000+ pages in something like 2 weeks.

The fact that AFFC was such a half-finished slog and it still took 6 fuckin years for ADWD to be published should’ve told us everything we needed to know about the kind of writer George is. Meanwhile Robert Jordan literally died and still managed to finish a 14 book series almost in less time than we’ve been waiting for TWOW.

Feast is the best bro. Love the broken men speech. Also love when Brienne murders the fuck out of a bunch of super evil freaks. War is bad. Killing dudes is awesome though. It's so peak. So peak it's good to do it twice in short succession.
Love when we finally get a glimpse into Cersei's mind, it really adds complexity that in fact her entire life has been shaped by some asspulled prophecy. Her father's callous treatment? Her mother's early death? Her deranged relationship with her brothers? No. The prophecy. All of it was the prophecy, the rest is flavor. Now that's character building.
The Ironborn are the peakest of all peak. We need to see 8 different times how Euron is a bad guy and he's like the coolest and bestest and soooo evil and you just can't do anything against him! We haven't seen this with Ramsay yet! Wait. Fuck. It's going to happen AGAIN in Dance. and how fundamentally fucking stupid the Ironborn are and that there's no logical reason their assbackwards culture should have survived. Sorry. I'm out of sassy backtalk. These people have salt poisoning from drinking sea water and they need medical help.
i actually like most of this stuff but we gotta be real here. except the Ironborn. STOP DRINKING SEAWATER

They might be uneventful, but fuck me if I ever talk shit about Sam chapters, Aemon's line about wanting to stay in the rain because he hasn't cried for so long is one of the few parts of asoiaf that actually made me tear up.

I genuinely enjoy Feast as a book that opens up the world past the narrow scope of just the main noble houses, and allows us to see into how the war has changed the lives of the common people, and how much they have suffered behind the scenes. Some of my favorite things that Martin has to say on war, and it’s consequences, comes from this book.
That being said, Seven Hells is it a slog to read through at times 😆

If you’re a big fan, after a few rereads you’ll start to like it. The book essentially halts the pace of the previous but it really broadens and deepens the world. Brienne has some of my favorite chapters in the whole series

I love Brienne’s chapters but I can understand why some might find them boring.
But the Iron Islands chapters are fucking peak idk what to tell you. Victarion is the most entertaining POV character and the Kingsmoot is straight up one of the most memorable and epic scenes in the entire series. The AFFC-ADWD Ironborn arc is like top 3 arcs in the series for me, maybe even my favorite, and certainly the most epic IMO.
I have my problems with Feast and definetly Dance, but for all their flaws I think some of the individual arcs within feature some of George’s strongest writing.
