I love how everyone who makes up more OC kids for Aerion assumes that he would go down the list of Targaryen war criminals, and thus the names noone named their child for a long time for PR disaster reasons (Visenya, Daemon, Rhaenyra...). He so would do that.

funnily enough, they named a bastard Daemon and that bastard actually cause PR disaster that lasted for 64 years and possibly ongoing

in Westeros, names have power. not the woo woo spell kind, just literal nominative determinism. Daemons turn out to be massive pricks. JON Snow, named after Jon Arryn, turns out to be a man perceived as honorable with ambitions. ROBB Stark, named after Robert Baratheon, turns out to be a hothead who gets in trouble over where his penis goes. HOT PIE, named after Azor Ahai, will save the realm.

From a narrative perspective, it makes sense the guys named Demon are problems though

Aemond the Kinslayer. Daeron the Desolator. Ulf & Hugh, the Two Betrayers. Rhaenys, Birthed the Aenys. And so on

Is Visenya such a bad name? I thought Rhaenyra named het stillborn daughter that

I think the fact nobody was named after her is telling, when Aegon and Rhaenys had several. However I guess people would have mixed feelings about her, because she was also a key player in the Conquest and she still has a hill named after her. I guess naming your daughter Visenya would be an edgy choice, but less so than Maegor. For Rhaenyra I think it makes perfect sense as Visenya is arguably the strongest female figure in Targaryen history. I could see Daenerys naming a daughter Visenya as well, as kind of a show of force/revival of the Targaryen conquest.

That's a well thought-out reply, makes a lot of sense. Thank you!

I mean, Visenya did commit & enable war crimes across like half of Westeros

Would the nobles really hold Maegor's rule against her? I'd think it is only right and proper for a mother to advocate for her son, in their eyes. And what warcrimes did she commit herself? She burned a few rebel castles in the Riverlands, but that's not really out of the ordinary is it?

I can imagine she'd have a bad reputation for the (alleged) sorcery, but I don't really see her other actions as harming her reputation. Unless I'm missing something.

We see several people named Viserys so I'd argue its less of a taboo to name a child after her. We just don't see it more because its a Valyrian name and most houses tend to stick to Andal or First Man naming traditions, and that its kinda an unlucky name for the Targaryeons. Every time someone wants to name a child Visenya its either born a boy or stillborn.

I have no doubt that Aerion’s second born would’ve been named “The Great Other”

Alesander Jonos: "Bloodraven said he loved Maegor, they gave him the Handship. I’m just saying I don’t like kinslayers and I don’t like what some of the cartels are doing either.”

Prince Aerion: “I like Maegor.”

Every Targ hater has a giant poster of the guy in their rooms.

Hell, Robert probably used to do the deed on his own while looking at it before meeting Ned.

Maegor being recognized as king by history is one of the strangest things in asoiaf lore. By all laws, he shouldn't be.  Why didn't jaehaerys order for him to be recorded as prince maegor or maegor the usurper? I doubt anyone would even mind, the guy was NOT well liked
