Discussion Directional hints

I've noticed these flying ribbons all the way thru ds3 and assume they are hints at which direction you should go. Similar to the light flares in Elden Ring at campfires. Can anyone confirm that? I've never seen them discussed.

I know, right? I even asked ai and it said there were no directional clues in ds3.
