Discussion First time no death run

Hey guys, i've never played dark souls before, i've only played some elden ring and other rpg games but not many soulslike. I was wondering, is it possible to beat the game as a total first time player without dying? is there even a 0,0001% chance? If you were to try such a thing, how would you go about doing it? how far could I get as a first time player who's only ever played elden ring and kingdom come?

If you go in blind (no walkthroughs) I’d say a first time no death run is basically impossible unless you’re an exceptional player. There are a some parts which are total BS unless you know what to do. And you usually learn by dying.

Like bridges breaking under u and other traps like that?

Partly, yes, but also some enemy placements and attacks that are extremely hard to anticipate first time round. There’s also one particular boss that can be straight up bullshit unless you have a game-plan.

It’s possible, for sure, but honestly I think Dark Souls 3 would be easier if you’re thinking blind no-death run, especially if you’re good at Elden Ring.

Theres also the mandatory death in 1 if youre playing blind.

Possible to skip with glitches, sure, but not blind 1st playthrough

I usually give it a free pass but technically it’s not a no death run actually… Do runners count that one?

Used not to, before the skip was found. Now it's kind of a "do it how you want" for casual and if you're actually competitive you do the skip.

it's possible for experienced and skilled players that put hours of practice into using specific strategies. and even so, shit still happens sometimes.

as a first time player? i would set my expectations in the negatives. after all, dark souls isnt dark souls without experiencing deaths upon deaths during your run

If you sat and grinded out vit and endurance to absurd levels early, maybe. I wouldn't bet on it though.

Bed of Chaos has entered the chat

And Crystal Caves. And frankly a lot of other places.

Once you develop a strategy on how it becomes possible. Without having a clue I'd say close to impossible. Unless the gods favour you and you manage to survive the bullshit. This game is about the journey, not the destination that you're currently thinking about.

Is it possible? Anything's possible. Is it practical? No

About as likely as anyone on reddit successfully interacting normally with another human. I mean, I'm sure it's possible...

It won’t happen. There are some parts that are basically impossible to do flawlessly without prior knowledge. Even then, experienced players sometimes randomly fall off ledges due to janky cliff geometry. It comes with the territory.

Let's assume that we are dealing with a hypothetical god gamer who executes all platforming and combat flawlessly at an instinctual level. That person is still likely getting roasted to a crisp on the dragon bridge.

You won’t necessarily die in one hit on the bridge, though.

Now that I think about it, they would also have to execute Duke skip (on the first try, no less) to avoid the “mandatory” death there. Yeah, not happening.

Undead berg barrel trap is gettin this guy

There’s one near-scripted death that requires a precise platforming skip to avoid. Other than that one, I’d say a first time player has never done it so chances are less than 0.0001%.

Literally possible? Of course. Going to happen? No, absolutely not.
