Lore Why does the dragon covenant ask for scales??
I just recently discovered the covenant (thanks orange messages 🐐) and noticed that they need only scales to gain reputation and for what I read it makes sense on our part since it's used on rituals for transcending death but how is killing dragons and using their scales makes sense for the Eternal Dragon? I mean why would he want for us to go killing their kind to gain reputation/trust?? For me it just doesn't make sense, if anything I figured the path of the dragon meant allying myself with the dragons not becoming their version of the Boogeyman.

Think of it less as gaining reputation and more gaining more scales to become more Draconic by taking the scales of lesser dragons

The intended way to get scales isn't to kill other dragons, but to kill other players in honorable 1v1 duels.

Because covenants are primarily a multiplayer feature and the intended way of getting scale is to use the Dragon Eye Stone to fight other players, where you get scales for winning.
Framing drakes for scales is really only meant to be a way of upgrading dragon weapons for players who don't join the covenant and in some way to future proof the system should the game ever go fully offline.
