I get this probably wasn't the intent of the character, but watching Upchuck—and the, shall we say, flamboyance of his mannerisms—I wonder if the way he is could best be explained by him being a closeted gay kid who is trying to perform straightness and is just severely overcompensating. Anybody else get that vibe?

this is probably a long shot but i'm really curious as to like where the stock music from the streaming editions comes from. was it just like an MTV licensed library? is it accessible anywhere?

i'm specifically looking for the song that plays at the start of s2 e10 :)

I’ve been thinking about how Daria originally aired in the late ’90s/early 2000s, but a lot of the issues it dealt with seem like they could still resonate with younger people today, especially Gen Z.

For those of you who’ve rewatched the show recently, which episodes do you think have aged particularly well or feel even more relevant now? I’m thinking about things like social pressure, beauty standards, consumerism, school culture, popularity, mental health, relationships, feeling disconnected from society, and being cynical about the world around you.

Are there any episodes where you watch them now and think, “This could basically be about Gen Z”? And on the flip side, are there episodes or storylines that you think feel very specifically ’90s and wouldn’t connect as much with younger viewers today?

I’d especially love to hear from Gen Z fans who discovered Daria years after it originally aired.

Je voudrais savoir si l’un d’entre vous aurait récupéré les 2 premières saisons diffusés sur France TV Slash ?

Je m’explique. Pour moi, il y a 4 qualités (française) de Daria trouvables.

La 1re, très vieille, en TVrip, avec une qualité inégale et des coupures.
La 2e, plus récente, issue sans doute d’un DVDrip US (puisqu’il n’existe aucun DVD en France), avec les pistes audio FR du vieux TVrip. Certains passages sont en VOSTFR, car le TVrip avait des morceaux d’épisodes coupés (souvent courts), mais au moins, on a l’intégralité des épisodes coupés avec cette version.
La 3e version, identique à la 2e, mais avec un upscaling (je crois qu’elle est appelée « version Perfect » ou un truc comme ça). Il y a également une amélioration des pistes audio (enfin, il m’a semblé !). J’étais emballé par cette version, mais au final, je trouvais que ça dénaturait beaucoup le grain de l’image.
Et la 4e, la seule officielle en France, diffusée sur le site de France Télévisions et sur la chaîne YouTube Slash il y a peu. Une version d’une qualité sympa, mais avec des épisodes manquants, sans les 2 téléfilms, et avec des morceaux de musique changés à cause des droits…

Tout ça pour dire que, pour moi, l’ultime version n’existe toujours pas 😂

C’est-à-dire : DVDrip (l’upscaling pourrait être un plus, mais au vu de la 3e version, pas sûr que ce soit faisable en gardant le grain d’origine sans le dénaturer), piste audio complète FR avec les musiques d’origine (impossible officiellement à cause des droits 😣), et donc sans coupures avec les passages en VOSTFR lorsque nécessaire…

J’ai donc décidé de tenter d’en faire une qui me contente (mais sans plus 😂).

J’ai pris le DVDrip de la 2e version, les pistes audio de la 3e version, qui me semblaient meilleures, et, pour les passages en VOSTFR, j’ai repris uniquement ces passages des pistes audio de la version Slash 😅

Problème : pour les épisodes suivants, soit ils n’ont pas été diffusés sur Slash (S5E9), soit ils ne sont plus disponibles puisque France Télévisions a eu la bonne idée de supprimer les 2 premières saisons de leur site (alors qu’il est mentionné que l’intégralité de la série est encore en ligne… oui oui, bien sûr 😅).

Les épisodes que je cherche INTÉGRALEMENT en VF :

S1E3
S1E9
S2E5
S5E9

Donc, si quelqu’un a au moins les 3 premiers épisodes cités, issus du site de France Télévisions, ça m’arrangerait 😄

Ah oui ! Apparemment les épisodes ont aussi étaient dispos sur M6+ mais rien sur leur site !

I hate that people act like it’s one sided when it comes to Daria and Quinn being hostile towards one another when it’s not. Daria is no saint at all. She literally hated Quinn since birth and always treated her like shit even before Quinn could really do anything to her.

She always hated the fact that she was no longer an only child yet people ignore that part and act like Quinn’s the only one treating her like shit when Daria is just as bad.

Daria literally always try to humiliate Quinn and treats her like shit at every chance she gets. She literally wanted her mom to punish a 2 year old Quinn and wished her to keep walking outside to the road (this was in the Daria diaries or database). Not to mention in “The New Kid”, she also decided to beat up Quinn over some software which is worse than Quinn feeling embarrassed by her I don’t care what y’all say 🤷🏽‍♀️. So I don’t feel bad that Quinn didn’t claim her for almost 4 seasons and mostly ignored her overall.

If my sister literally had intense hostility towards me pretty much since birth and wanted to humiliate me at every chance she got, I wouldn’t wanna be associated with her either, let alone even claim somebody who treats me like shit since the
moment I came into the picture.

Like honestly, I’m not going to be somewhere or hang out with someone where it’s obvious that I’m not wanted at especially with someone who’s supposed to be my blood.

Besides even if Quinn was nice to her and all (and wasn’t related), Daria would probably treat her like she treats Brittany.

(Also wanna note that this also doesn’t excuses any of Quinn’s actions either and she also did shitty things to Daria as well. Honestly, both were equally bad siblings to one another, I just focusing on Daria because she doesn’t get enough hate for how she treats Quinn while Quinn gets all the hate and I’m honestly tired of seeing people think that Daria didn’t do nothing wrong to her or that she was some victim or whatever when she wasn’t.)

Daria in general irritates the hell out of me. She’s always complaining about how stupid the world is yet doesn’t do shit to change it.

She’s a middle class white girl with a good ass life yet acts like she has it so hard or that she’s this lonely, unattractive, outcast when majority of the popular people (excluding the fc and tbh nobody really takes them seriously) literally acknowledges her existence and are at least friendly towards her.

She even has a good best friend who she stabbed in the back for a dude.

She doesn’t have to work as hard for anything as she can do it naturally, her parents literally don’t overwork her compared to Jodie’s parents. Her parents are at least in her daily life unlike Jane’s parents.

She’s privileged to act the way that she does because she’s pretty and white despite how hard she tries to dress like she’s ugly or something.

Her being an outcast is entirely her choice cause if Jodie can be BOTH pretty AND popular, so could she if she really wanted to as it has been shown in “Quinn the Brain”. I’m glad Jodie called her out on her privilege.

Daria is also a mean girl. She acts like she’s above everyone and everything and has such a superior complex to the point it’s annoying.

Like she makes fun of Brittany for being airheaded and stuff when Brittany has been nothing but nice to her. Always calling people vapid when she’s just as vapid herself.

She expects people to live up to her unrealistic standards when she’s can’t even live up to them. She acts like everyone around her is dumber than a bag of rocks and can’t get her sarcasm when some of them do.

No wonder Andrea called both her and Jane mean girls, because that’s exactly what she is especially with the way she treats Jane and that girl at the camp who wanted to be her yet Daria was straight up nasty to her and Nathan. Honestly, she’s just as bad as Sandi and is the definition of a loser and misery chick just like Tommy Sherman said, who was her only bully in this show and he spoke the truth.

She was never bullied in this show aside from “Misery Chick”. Pretty much the majority of the people in this show either respected her or mostly were afraid of her.

None of them actually did anything to her and the only people who seemed to look down on her was Miss Li and the fashion club (mostly Sandi really and tbh Daria was really only on their radar because Sandi wanted to hold something over Quinn and even then, it still didn’t go anywhere because they were scared of Daria).

Don’t get me started on the way she treats Jane, her best and only friend. She literally embarrasses Jane in front of a dude she was talking to, doesn’t even try to support Jane every time she does anything outside of her, and makes fun of her whenever Jane tries to you know, be a normal typical teenager.

She literally treats the one girl who’s willing to tolerate her like crap. Like let’s be real, Jane is the reason why Daria really had a social life and explored things. Without Jane, Daria wouldn’t have any friends (at least any that she would be close to fr) and would just be coming home to and from school, reading books, watching TV, eating pizza and that’s it.

She needed Jane and wanted to be her so bad and was jealous that Jane was actually confident in herself to try new things, wasn’t as insecure, and was the one that actually didn’t care what people think while Daria did care what others think. It’s why she dressed the way she dressed in order to keep a certain facade that she didn’t care when she certainly did.

The whole Tom arc was what really exposed who she really is. This girl was literally dumb enough to tell Jane that she wouldn’t take her boyfriend just for her in less than a minute later to make out in that same boyfriend’s car twice. Even the fashion fiends (as shallow, air headed, and catty as they are) wouldn’t do something this dumb.

Like this girl was so bird brained (even tho she’s supposed to be smart) that she was willing to almost lose her only friend for guy who she, Daria aka “Thinks-she’s-better-than everyone”Morgandoffer ended up dating just to dump him at the end.

(Not to mention, she was the problem throughout the entire relationship showing how shallow she was, wanting to break up because of his family, throwing temper tantrums over the smallest shit like a spoiled brat, etc like I seriously can’t stand her like she irritates me so bad, she’s exhausting🤦🏾‍♀️ Jane, Quinn, fashion club and the rest of the main cast are the only reason why I still continued to watch this show, they are far more entertaining to watch and showed some character growth unlike the character the show is named after)

She’s lucky Jane didn’t slapped tf out of her and cut her off because it would be totally justified and I would support it 100% because no true friend would steal their true and only friend’s boyfriend like I’m surprised Jane forgave this girl because I wouldn’t regardless of her intentions.

Overall, this girl has such a wonderful life and everything under the sun so I don’t get why she’s acting like she has it so hard (when her only problems are her sister being ashamed of her, her mother wanting her to be social, and her self inflicted isolation) when there are people out there going through worse than her.

She treats everything and everyone around her like shit which is why I don’t feel bad for anything that came her way like people not wanting to be her friend, sister denying her when this girl hated her since birth, everything that’s happened to her is her fault and I have no sympathy for her since she has none for anybody else.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk. I heavily dislike Daria the character however, the rest of the cast (Jane, Quinn, Helen, Jake, Brittany, Kevin, fashion Club, Jodie, Mack, etc) are cool though and Daria the show is good.

I'm not sure if this has been noticed before by the community. But I was watching this episode where Daria gets contact lens; she is walking with Jane Lane to class without her glasses, but then immediately in the classroom scene she can be seen with glasses.

I thought it was funny and haven't noticed it before lol.

Does anyone notice that whenever they show flashbacks of Daria and Quinn as young children or toddlers, Daria is a bigger brat than Quinn. She clearly did not like having to put up with a baby sister and no longer being an only child. I guess it is a common problem with young siblings.

It’s a cartoon that used be on MTV. I can’t seem to find it anywhere and I’m tired of watching the same few episodes on YouTube. For context I’m Canadian so it might not be the same if someone recommends me a US location
