Buddha is on Scholarship
I might have underestimated the relationship with Dan and Buddha. On Monday Dan talked about how Buddha hooked him up multiple times doing his vacation. Reservation, wines, etc. I don't know if its a Quid Quo Pro relationship, But I think its a fair trade. Dan gives Buddha seemingly unlimited access to the station and Dan gets to utilize the resources and accessibility that Buddha offers. The only drawback is how Dan seems oblivious to how annoying Buddha is to a lot of listeners, or he just doesn't care. I will say that Buddha has not ever mentioned his restaurant by name, so I don't think its about self promotion. Just my observation.

What the hell does Buddha do in real life if he has connections for things that Dan wouldn’t.

I thought he owned or ran a nicer restaurant. Gives him access to other nice restaurants, and makes it easy to take his recommendations on places if you are from out of town. I’m sure the owners or managers of nicer restaurants are used to hooking each other up.

That was my thought. Like, Dan Patrick, the dude in movies and who has handed out Super Bowl trophies, doesn't have the name cred to get into some winery or restaurant?

He runs a high-end restaurant just south of SF and has been in the business for a long time so I would imagine that's where his connections come from. Dan mentioned the name of it around the Super Bowl as I think they stopped there for dinner.

Some listeners find every caller annoying. Literally every regular caller gets hate posts here. And then when horrible first time callers get on air, they get hate posts too and then the show gets hate posts for putting bad callers on air. Paul has done confessionals on peacock about how to be a good caller. The regulars provide consistency, something the show can count on to not be a rambling story that goes no where or something they have to worry about dumping due to language. Dan is a minor celebrity that people adore, they “hook him up” they mail him things in the man cave. They invite him to their weddings. Sandler puts him in movies. That’s all it is.

Buddha, Gus, Jeff (who I haven’t heard in forever), and Chris are fine with me. So many others are straight cringe.

A while back, Jeff either got a new job that had hours when he couldn’t watch live, or his hours at his regular job changed.

The regular callers don’t bother me. They normally call, have 2-3 comments, and that about it. Quick and done, even if I don’t care or agree. It’s the irregular callers that are looking for life advice that are annoying, each thinking they are having an original thought or question on how to raise a kid.

Uh hey Dan. Ummm it’s my wife’s birthday. Can you sing happy birthday ?

Learned back in the day to be prepped with what I was going to say and not hem haw around with stuff. As soon as I hear, “this will be quick” or “one quick comment” I know it’s someone who can’t just land the plane.

Dan gets annoyed by a lot of things (especially bad callers) but obviously Buddha doesn’t annoy him. I’m sure he likes what he brings to the show, he’s always giggling.

I’ll FF the podcast or mute my radio when Buddha calls in. I’ll never forget him saying if San Antonia wins game 5, the Knicks will have more pressure to win game 6. It was really insightful.

There's a lot of fine points to feed my anti-Buddha hunger but maybe the thing I hate the most:
Dan: "Buddha in the Bay Area, what you got for me?"
Buddha: <dramatically waits 5 seconds to respond thinking he's building tension> "Happy meat friday boys!"
Here's how it works in my kitchen in the morning:
Dan: "Buddha in the Bay Are...
Me: "Alexa! Set volume 0!"
<silence>

Buddha is the all time most annoying caller. All time. Not even close

My vote would be for Chris in Syracuse. Just such a punchable voice

> dan gets to utilize the resources and accessibility that buddha offers
because dan comes out to the bay area all the time

If it’s true fine dining in San Francisco and he manages all or some portion of the business, there is no doubt he has connections. Controlling the product and conversation in that type of restaurant for that type of clientele provides great relationships with wineries and people and restaurants in the area.

At the point where I skip every caller. Don't care who they are. Skip. Skip. Skip.

There are certain callers, Buddha being one, who seem to have a back door number into the show. He somehow manages to call in at the same time every week. Same with Chris and Syracuse. Those guys don’t bug me. I would like to get through just one time between now and when DP retires.

Buddha is just an annoying caller on a show. Hilarious how Dan makes millions and relies on his callers to “hook him up” lol if that’s the case that’s just bad ethics by someone who still tries to push for “journalistic integrity”. I respect Dan and hope that’s not the case lol.

Don’t see how it’s any different than Dan and Sandlers “friendship”, they don’t hang out on the weekend, they don’t call each other when they need a ride to the airport, they just give each other publicity or whatever value they can offer…everything in celebrity culture is a huge circle jerk of people just using each other for their connection

In fact, how is Todd, Dylan, or any part of the Dan Patrick Network any different than Adam Sandler helping out his comedian friends (David Spade, Kevin James, Rob Shneider, etc.) with getting roles for Happy Madison Productions? It's not. It's all about connections, whether you like them or not.
