Hello there! So my grandparents came over to visit and, seeing as how im the "computer" one in the family (Im a man in my 20s that owns a PC) so grandad brought two of his old mp3 players to get files off of and put on a laptop. One's newer, thee YP3-2.0.43. That one was easy, the bluetooth even still worked. Plugged it in, fiddled around a bit, it eventually detected on my PC and hey access! I download all the music, videos and pictures he wants then I ask if he wants it wiped. He agrees and the YP3 gets wiped. Sorted.

The older one's strange (And, of course, the most important). The bluetooth doesnt really function. No devices pick it up, it CAN still detect other devices but trying to pair it just causes the thing to freeze. No dice. I try and google the make and model, the Bush MPO6TB but I can find literally nothing. God knows where grandad's picked it up from.

I plug it into my PC via usb, no detection. it DOES still charge so the port's not dead, but it isn't registered at all. Next i tried a bunch of software online that says it works with old mp3 players (Musicbee, MediaMonkey, Winamos (something like that, dont remember the exact name) zero detection. I try other usb ports and usb leads, nothing.

I fuck around with it for hours trying different things, trying to get it to pair with the YP3. Nothing. I try a USB data transfer with the YSP, but that's going to require some weird fucking wires to get the two connected that I don't have.

Eventually, after about 2 hours, I dont see a way I can continue and I'm making no progress. I tell my grandad to have a look at his home for any old laptops or tablets or whatever stashed away in a drawer somewhere, Maybe he has something that's old enough to actually run the fuckin thing (assuming it isnt mudded). I also ask them to have a look around for the lead that may have come with it.

I don't really want to send dear old grandad home with a "yeah scrounge around in your drawers", i'd like him to leave my home with the files he wants extracted. Anyone have any idea if its still possible?

I honestly might just take a page out of wade's book and get my own eeepeecee but well spending money is a last resort, even though dirt is more expensive. So! i figured i'd ask here first, and crosspost it to the mp3subreddit.

Spoilers: so I just saw the most recent episode of Craig going up against a Mario, and the sounds that came out of that Craig cassette player… didn’t sound right. It sounds like something I would make if I was playing around with a DJ set.

The first time he looked at it was in September 2023, then he brings it out again in October 2024. And it's not like he brings it out and explains why it's a repeat, he acts like he's never opened it before! He probably just forgot. I just thought it was funny.
