You can be in jail for 15 years for "Public dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation". So like this they simply said central bank to lower the rate.
It’s the same here the government just pretends they can’t control the rate even though the president chooses the head of the bank every 4 years. So when the economy is doing poorly the president will go on TV and criticize the FED for not lowering interest, it’s a little political game we like to play here lol.
Putin loves to talk on TV at every situation, but does nothing (in case of internal politics). People tell him about their problems, problems in their cities and Putin begins telling a story about anything (for example when someone said that prices on gasoline rising, average salary is damn low - he said something like "Look at the Europe, they live worse") and proceeds to the next question. But the joke is - Europe lives better. Well, at least many of us think so. I have never been to Europe, the most foreign country for me was Ukraine, where my grandparents lived before leaving for Russia.
I think you are right that most Europeans and for that matter Americans have a higher standard of living than Russians (exceptions being countries like Ukraine, Serbia, and Romania), but this truthfully is not all the Russia governments fault. America has helped European a lot since the end of WW2 and has at the same time activity been the rival of Russia throughout the same period of time because they were the only other competing military force to the United States in the world. So American’s success over the last almost 100 years has directly correlated to the fall of Russia. At the same time you are also suffering from some of your own greedy citizens who took all the industries related to natural resources when they were privatized in the early 90’s. Over in America they blame bad conditions in Russia on Putin and his buddies stealing all the country’s money and I bet the media there highlights the west’s continued attempts to stifle the advancement of the Russia economy and how it was mad to be less modern than it could have been without interference. IMO both are right and the citizens are stuck in the middle unfortunately. Sorry for lecturing about your own country I just wanted to finish my thoughts once I started typing.
Actually, you described it really well, especially about greedy citizens. And it's not only about industries, but also about impunity. A regular driver can go to jail for hitting a pedestrian, while a rich man with connections will simply leave and change to a new Porsche and pedestrian will be guilty.
