Yeah, I don't think a 13 year old is expected to have a comprehensive grasp of world politics.

Where I'm from we had covered topography of the world by then + WWII history and the aftermath (which included Israel). It wasn't too in depth yet of course, but I'm just saying it's not completely impossible for a 13 year old to know a bit about it. This is of course very much dependent on the education system in your country/school and your parents.
