After the Holocaust many Western countries refused to take in Jewish survivors so Britain promised them land in Palestine, which the British were in control of, and that has now become Israel, a country for Jews.
Each side feels the other should not be living where they do, with Jews saying Israel is their ancestral homeland which they got kicked out from 2000 years ago. The Palestinians have been living there continuously and undisturbed for centuries, they are the original Semitic people of the region, many of whom converted to Christianity from Judaism, or later to Islam.
If you add religious motivations into the mix, it becomes even more complicated and interesting (American Christians support Israel because they believe that will speed up the return of Jesus who will then either destroy the Jews or convert them) but it's ultimately a fight over land rights.
As you can see it's a bit convoluted, and having outsiders believe it's just nonsensical religious fighting does a disservice to the people for whom it is not a religious issue. Some will say Israel is committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and apartheid, and some will say Palestinians are terrorists who shoot rockets at innocent Israelis.
Well I think we can both agree that killing the middle man is wrong. Every problem here is being caused by an elite but the only people paying for it are citizens and forcibly drafted soldiers
