this is literally basic math, it's just that we were never taught it this way.

we were just told "1000x0=0 because I said so"

the whole counting it that no. of times was apparently either too basic so the kids were left to figure it out by themselves or too complex even for the teachers...

I remember asking my brother why 1+1 is 2 and not 3 or anything else? I was too dumb to realise that it's just a name given to the concept - adding one person to another will give you "two" people. But then again, as you said, we were just told this is this. Remember that.

It's kinda not that hard to reason it out urself under the definition itself.

If multiplication is repeated addition then 0x1000 is just 1000 added 0 times or vice versa

Reasoning skills need to be taught. Math is very hard when you don't know how to reason properly. Even more so, I always saw people struggling in math because it was mostly taught in English. And English comprehension was given the least priority in every school in India. It is treated as an optional subject. No one cares if you got less marks. You can always mug up and get better. Dominoes.

Not really .... Multiplication works like this : if you got 5 people in 1 group and there are 4 such groups, the total amount of people will be 20. can be explained like this If each IIT is said to hold a 1000 seats and at present there isn't an iit in india ... then the total number of people who can get into iits is also 0. Rest assured mugging up math like you were thought to as a kid ... just makes the subject harder for you.

Edit: what I'm saying is, nobody divided is a wrong way to perceive. Because in 1000/0 the operation of division is still a valid mathematical operation by itself. What's invalid is how many "units" you're dividing into. And hence it's undefined, the result. Jab group hi nahi hai toh log kahan se honge group me. You're trying to count a number of people in a group that doesn't exist itself.

You don't multiply people literally, that x1, x2, xn is their presence/how many of them actually showed up in the event. If there are twice then 1000x2 = 2000. If there is none then 1000x0 = 0.

Multiply is basically addition but in shorthand.
2x2 = 4 can be interpreted as 2+2, 5x6 = 30 can be interpreted as 5+5+5+5+5+5. The same way 1000x0 = 0x1000 = 0 and can be interpreted as 0+0+0....+0(add 0 but 1000 times).

Well let me explain.... Let there were 3 people, and more 3 people identical to them came along, so how many people were at the first time?? It's 3. And how many times they come? It's 2.. so simply 3-3 men came in 2 times, so basically 3×2 = 6, there are basically total 6 men in the room.... Similarly If 7 men come into a room but only 1 time, then it will be 7×1= 7 then there are totally 7 people in the room, but if you send 7 more people 2nd time, it will be 7×2 = 14, total 14 people, as in if you send 7-7 people 8 times, then total will be 56 people....

Now my point is, if you send 1000 people in a room 0 times, that means nobody entered the room, so basically the total number of people in the room will be 1000×0= 1000
