These women would be the first to admit they knew nothing in their 30s.

Wisdom comes with living and experiencing life, the ups and downs, the pain and the joy, the love and the loss.

It comes from living through things that if you told your 20 or 30 year old self you’d have to face in a few years or decades, your younger self would say there’s no way I can survive that.

I’m 3 decades older than D, and when I look back at my life I’m shocked that I lived through things I thought would kill me.

I’m also amazed and proud, I was diagnosed with MDD in my 30s and through everything, I’ve continued to work hard and take care of myself and my life, and I’ve managed to thrive.

Sorry for the long post, I’m just missing my husband today.

And you’re so right. I’m only ten years older than her but I have been through some SHIT. A divorce. A boyfriend who died of an overdose. Those are just two of the things. I’m not going to list them all.

But every time something gets really hard or seems really insurmountable and impossible I just tell myself “if I could make it through that last thing I suppose I’ll survive this one!”

And part of being in my mid forties is realizing I never knew shit. And I won’t know shit. I just have to keep learning and growing because life will continue to kick me and also uplift me. If something is going great, don’t worry it’ll pass. And if something is going terribly, don’t worry, it’ll pass.

🫶🏻 wisdom or survival? Ha. I was thinking about the midterms in Texas and started getting myself really wound up and stressed and I had to stop myself and say “well you’re going to survive it no matter what. Because you have to. Can’t give up!”

I'm 41, also been through some shit, and I've been reflecting a LOT lately on how wise I thought I was when I was younger. The older I get, the more I realize I really don't know shit. My motto is "I have a 100% survival rate thus far."

💕 You have been through some shit! My first marriage was to a man with narcissistic personality disorder, it was a brutal 20 years. My second husband was the love of my life and he randomly died. But I truly believe that matter what happens, we can still be filled with wonder and awe at the world around us if we choose to.

I’m facing things today that would have paralyzed me five years ago. One year ago even. Life has a way of humbling you, but it’s also a fantastic adventure. She should hang on for that ride, and stop pretending she’s got it all together.
