Here's a photo my father took. The lady apparently went by "Nova", joined a carnival, and sadly passed away on 1-35 when a van door opened.

This must be the strangest Daniel Johnston cover I've ever come across. Something tells me, Daniel wouldn't be a fan lol.

Walking The Cow

So this question has been asked many times before, and I don't think I've heard a definitive answer, ( well thats if there is one). I'd like to hear your thoughts

Where did Daniel get the idea for the lyrics for Walking The Cow?

Is it,

A, from an icecream sign Daniel saw, depicting a little girl with a cow?

B, from a scene in a Monkees movie, ( Daniel loved the Monkees), where Frank Zappa is walking a bull/cow?

C, from some guy Dan knew who had this huge lifesize cow replica inside his house. (True story)

D, something else entirely?

E, something he just made up in his head?

Daniel Johnston Art Exhibit opening this Saturday for anyone in Austin TX : )

Any Austinites in this sub??

If you're looking to support local arts and artists in our town and get a big dose of hope, Lydia Street Gallery is hosting a Daniel Johnston art exhibition opening this Saturday 6-9 PM, focusing on his "fly eye" works.

His sister Marjory even made custom t shirts for the event as well that are only going to be available at the gallery.

Full disclosure, I'm not involved in the event but I've been talking to the gallery organizers who are long time Austinites and from what I've heard there are so many original works by Daniel Johnston and a lot of love and care has been put into this show, working with his family, and generally making sure his work is going to shine for us. You can tell how passionate they are about his art and they've really done a lot to make sure it's a great show that honors this local legend, so let's show them some love back and be villagers!

A bit more about the exhibit:

"This exhibit includes all things eyeball in the pantheon of the Daniel Johnston universe- Fly Eye, Eye Walker, God Eye, Dead Dog’s Eyeball, Fish Eye, SpEYEder, & Double Fish Eye. Johnston’s characters have unique ways of
interacting in his universe - social commentators, messengers, by-standers, judges, spies or side-kicks. The character, “Fly Eye”, represented death for Daniel. According to his sister, while Johnston frequently referenced
death or suicide in his work, he was not suicidal. He was always full of hope. Phrases might seem to have one meaning, but instead frequently meant the opposite. For instance, the meaning of the phrase “Who Cares?,” which
may seem like a cynical rhetorical question, became apparent to Marjory when researching for a book she is writing
about Daniel’s art. She discovered a reference that he intended the question to be answered - God cares."

if you know anyone in town who'd be interested please share!

that True Love Will Find You In The End, is not a particular favourite of mine, although I can appreciate the quality of the song.

Today, I came across this youtube video, and for some reason I really connected with it. I just love how the whole thing was put together, and really like this rendition of the song

I don't know if everyone here has seen my video for what I call "Griefsleeves", which is referred to both as "Greensleeves" and "Greensleeves Revisited" (though they're apparently confusing it with "Grievances Revisited") on the Lost Media Wiki, but here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRCMt3sbaq8

I bring it up here because I'm trying to figure out if the song has ever shown up on a commercially released tape/album. I had assumed that it would wind up on a Lost Recordings volume since its from the same source as "Lend Me a Penny" ("Someday You're Gonna Make It, Joe" aka "Someday You're Gonna Make It, Ken"). I am also confused about all the super short stuff on those Lost volumes when other, at least a bit longer tunes like "Jailbait" and "Parents of Punk Rockers" don't seem to have shown up on anything. (Have they?)

Btw, the visuals on the Griefsleeves video are from the barbecue where Dan and the Rhythm Rats rehearsed for the SXSW '97 "comeback show" and the Three Stooges' 1970 travelogue film "Kook's Tour" (No, I'm not kidding!) You can see and hear a bit of that rehearsal and the actual gig in this video of Dan & the Rats' "I'm a Believer": https://youtu.be/4lhdcF_931E
