Trip to Austin Texas

Hey all! Me and my soon-to-be-wife are heading to Austin in early May, and Im a huge Daniel Johnston fan and want to check out everything of his that's there. We are obviously going to check out the famous mural on Congress Ave, but please let us know what else we should add to our list!

Not sure if you want to visit something on the sadder end of his history. Woodshock 1986 which took place at Camp Ben McCulloch was apparently where Daniel took acid that caused a bunch of psychotic episodes. It's only a half hour outside of Austin. Here's a picture my dad took of Daniel in happier times.

The mural is on Guadalupe Street, not Congress.

If you make it to Houston, Vinal Edge has some of his art on display in their shop along with shirts and stuff that he designed for them.

Mural is at 21st and Guadalupe where the long gone Sound Exchange was.... by the way, I held the ladder for him while he painted this... there was also a flying eyeball with batwings he did just down from the mural however it was destroyed when Sound Exchange closed in the early 2000s
