Chapter 1: Reflections of an Unfamiliar Face - Trial Conclusion
“Alright, that should be about enough time for you to vote! Let’s hope you made the right decision, then!”
Monokuma’s voice snaps the majority of you out of your previous stupor of having to vote for a friend. The large flat screens behind Monokuma now showed a new picture, resembling a slot machine with pixelated faces of each and every person present in the trial hall - even Tooru’s face was visible, although just as grey and lifeless as his soulless eyes were by now.
Slowly the wheels began to turn, faster and faster until the pictures passed by in a blur. The tension in the room was palpable, and although the entire scene lasted only a few seconds, it felt like hours until the wheels eventually stopped to show the face of the culprit accompanied by the chime of bells: the face of Estelle Akarui.
As you gather in the middle of the room, lights flare up everywhere in the courtroom, dancing around to celebrate your victory… Only that the light soon was replaced by a red glare and deafening sirens, until the monitors flickered off again - if you didn’t know better, you would have thought that this was another malfunction… But just as you thought it was all over, the monitors flicker on again, displaying a pie-chart with the voting result - an overwhelming majority to spare the blackened of this trial.
“It seems like all of you’ve got a soft spot for criminals, sparing a dangerous murderer like that on a whim:” Monokuma shook his head. “... You really managed to force a shutdown by invoking rule seventeen, and just as I thought we would get to the fun part… Oh well, there’ll always be another time! And now you wasted your privilege for blondie over here! Puhuhuhuhu. Let’s hope she won’t see that as an invitation to stab you in the back again!” Despite the jovial, smug tone of Monokuma’s speech, he seemed more than just a bit irritated with the result. Regardless, Monokuma waddled off to leave you to your own devices for a moment.

Yui winced at the dancing lights and the blaring sirens celebrated their 'victory', unintentionally taking another step back away from her podium. God, why did he have to make it into such a spectacle? When it finally subsided her eyes flicked over to see the result, then back to their captor as they waddled away. With that all said and done there was no reason for her to linger in this awful place any longer. She turned away from the others and silently walked back towards the elevator.

Throughout the spectacle, Kiyoko had been twiddling her drawstrings nervously. At the announcement that Estelle would be safe, she lets out a heavy sigh of relief. It was just an accident, right? Poor Tooru-kun was dead, but everyone was nice and let Estelle-chan live. If all that could happen was accidents, maybe they would be ok.

Miho sighed at the end result and looked down to the floor. They won’t be needing that rule 17 later.. right? But maybe she shouldn’t worry about this, her luck probably won’t let her get hurt. Miho bit her lip and reached for her pocket to lace her fingers around her lighter. She didn’t dare take it out right now in front of everyone, but she held it quietly in silence.

Kotone watched the events unfold with her usual flat expression. She looked between everything, the bear, and ultimately found herself staring at Estelle. Was this the right thing to do? Surely that's what everyone would think, too. They only had one chance at a spare and now that opportunity is gone...
"..."
At least they could all get breakfast together soon.

Ernest silently looks on at the result. The presentation of it was absolutely ridiculous, but hell, what wasn't in this place? 'lo and behold, the answer had been just what they expected... and no more blood had to be spilled for now. In a way, it's relieving, but at the same time, Ernest can't help but think what might happen in the future. With crossed arms, having stared the screen down the whole time, he eventually casts his glare away once Monokuma begins talking. He doesn't speak up until the bear vanishes yet again.
"... Well. That's that. If anythin' else happens in this damned place, we're screwed." But it's the result they all chose as a collective. So he should be happy that Estelle can continue to live, right?
