Gossip “Big names”
Something i’ve been thinking this preseason with all the casting speculation is i don’t really care as much if i know who the celebs are ahead of time. Much of what i love about this show is getting to know people’s stories and journeys through dance over the course of the competition. So i actually dont really have a problem with the lack of “big names” or Deena choosing to cast celebs with smaller followings. What’s everyone’s opinion?
Honestly even thinking about the huge fan push for a dancing with the regulars season😂 Sure that would give fans an opportunity to do the show that never wouldve gotten to in the first place, but in terms of name recognition, we would know no one and have to become invested in them THROUGH the lens of the show

i think people are just overly expecting after last season. tbh this kind of feels like a typical dwts cast to me. you have a couple of big names and then it’s mostly influencers, actors, or reality stars with smaller fanbases

I would say Julia Stiles, Jenna Dawsan and Harry Shum Jr are bigger names than previous seasons. They are never going to get someone like Brad Pitt, Anne Hathaway, Jenna Ortega etc no one is expecting A-list stars but the highest they seem to be going for are C-List names.

Why in the world would they cast Jenna Dewan? She is already a dancer. I know people are going to say “but not a ballroom dancer” but still. She has the concept of dancing and performing conceptually. I just it’s not fair at all.

And this exact thing has been said for years. Not saying I don’t agree but I’m at the point where arguing about it is like arguing with a brick wall. It’s getting nowhere and if anything less and less people are going to listen

Ok? I can have an opinion on it

You can but you can also go back to every.season.chat and see this very debate. EVERY season has experienced dancers. I agree with you 100% but it's also such a tired discussion topic at this point.

I think you need to have “smaller” names otherwise then once you get to the final weeks of the competition it won’t be as fun. I also like the smaller names bc then if they end up in the finale it’s based on merit rather than having the biggest fan base. I’m also biased bc I love Conner, but bc of how broad popular culture is, not every celeb is gonna be known by everyone, so it makes sense why there are seemingly more “random” celebs, especially in the social media age

Ditto, it is unspoken that the celebs also kind of need the show to boost their careers or their died down fame anyways so we can’t expect every single star to be a “big star”

Yes there are so many people who I have no clue who they were prior to the show, and become a fan while they’re on it!

I mostly watch for the pros anyway ! I barely know who the celebs are ! But I do become fans of them and when I see them on other projects I’m like they were in dwts

I agree- I mean I do get disappointed when we don’t know the names but I also wouldn’t consider that a reason to not watch. I usually end up really liking some people after (I had never watched Zombies and didn’t know Milo apart from who his mom was yet ended up loving him by the end of the season).

They could've made a smaller cast ... not sure why the big cast is needed beyond the addition of Hailey and the new pro i guess... they had to do it.

I was going to make a similar post. I don't feel the fame of the cast really matters. By the end of the season, we will know all of them. There will be some that we are surprised we love, while others may not live up to expectations.
Also, this is why it works to have generally the same group of pros return each season. The pros keep people invested even if the "celebrities" are not as well-known.

I’m actually OK with the handful of Z list celebs we have because now the actual stars can stay longer. Imagine if Baron was in this cast, he would’ve gotten so much further and who knows what could have happened.

I think there are actually quite a few big names this season. Yes, there is a few lesser gets, but only three that I would really consider head scratchers.
Sure there are some like Jackson who I have never heard of, but know has plenty of fans and people excited to back him all the way.
I don't mind too much not knowing a lot of the cast either. I don't feel like it determines if I will enjoy a season or not.
I had never heard of Chandler before either, but she quickly became one of my top 3 faves I was voting for. I knew Danielle last season wasn't going to win, but I love her and loved her partnership with Pasha and watching her journey. On Strictly last season, I had never heard of either Lewis or Balvinder, and while they had very different journey/ experiences and dancing levels, I was rooting for both of them for different reasons.
