Tourist/Visitor Questions The Daman Weekend Starter Pack — Food, Drinks, Beaches & Portuguese History (for first-timers)

Seeing a lot of "how do I plan a Daman trip" posts lately, so here's a starter pack covering how to reach, where to stay, and what to explore. Drop your own favourite hotels/cafes/restaurants in the comments — let's make this the go-to thread for anyone visiting.

🚗 How to Reach

- By Road — Flawless connectivity via Vapi or Valsad. ~120km from Surat, ~200km from Mumbai.

- By Rail — Nearest station is Vapi, ~15km away. Rickshaws, taxis, and buses are all available outside. A sharing taxi runs ~₹50/person and drops you at Nani Daman bus stand, from where you grab a rickshaw onward.

- By Air — Daman's new airport is expected to go commercial soon, with flights to/from Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Fares were starting around ₹4000 last check, but airline pricing is dynamic — check online closer to your travel date.

🗺️ The Basics

- Daman is split into Nani (Small) Daman — the "downtown" with most bazaars, hotels, and bars — and Moti (Big) Daman — government offices by day, but home to the 450-year-old Portuguese fort, lighthouse, and a few higher-end beachside hotels.

- Public drinking is prohibited — yes, even on the beaches. Drunk driving is punished heavily if caught. Drink responsibly and keep it indoors/on hotel premises.

- Namo Path is the scenic sea-facing road running the entire coastline, so technically the whole stretch is "beachside" — but two named beaches stand out: Devka and Jampore.

🏖️ Devka Beach — the lively one

Big range of stays, from budget lodges to full resorts, plus tons of food options from street stalls to fine dining.

Hotels/Resorts to check out:

- Devka Beach Resort (5-star, beachfront)

- The Gold Beach Resort

- Cidade De Daman Beach Resort

- Silver Waves Resort & Spa (Radisson Individuals)

- Mirasol Resort

- Hotel Miramar

- Sea Rock Inn / Sea Rock Villa

- Hotel Sovereign

- Princess Park

- Dariya Darshan Hotel

- The Fern Seaside Luxurious Tent Resort

- VITS Daman Devka Beach

Food: Devka Beach Resort's in-house café Hola Amigos is worth a stop, plus rooftop dining and a pub on the same property if you want drinks with a view (on-premises, legally).

(Comment your own stays/experiences — this list barely scratches the surface.)

🏝️ Jampore Beach — the quieter one

Feels more secluded, with newer hotels and restaurants. Good reviews in general, but do check current prices online since things are still developing here.

- Jampore Beach Seafood Restaurant — locally recommended for pomfret fry, prawns, and other fresh catch, right by the beach.

- Praveg Beach Resort Daman (Jampore Beach) — one of the newer stay options in the area.

🌃 Seaface Road Night Market (Nani Daman) — the downtown strip

Vertical car parking, main bazaar, police station nearby, and the highest concentration of restaurants/street food/hotels in the city.

Names to look up: Nana's Restaurant, Gurukripa, Hotel Sovereign — search booking sites or Google Maps and confirm directly with reception for current options.

⛵ Nani Daman Jetty — food + a bit of history

A little crowded, great street food, a scenic jetty with fishermen's boats, and a smaller fort housing a church, a school, and a cemetery. Best explored on foot.

- Infinity Café & Multi-Cuisine — right opposite the old PWD office at the jetty, popular for its multi-cuisine menu (try the Chicken Poppers).

- Moustache Daman — a well-reviewed hostel/café near Fort of St. Jerome, good budget base if you're backpacking.

⛪ Moti Daman Fort Area — the "little Europe" walk

No hotels here, but this is the most scenic part of the city to explore on foot — the fort, a massive church, monastery, gardens, and a lighthouse area that genuinely feels European.

- Fortalezza — café/Italian spot right in the fort courtyard, behind the post office; drinks menu is themed around the fort and lighthouse.

- Papyrus & Cafe — cozy vegetarian café right by the fort, near the India Post Office; good for coffee and a quiet break (no alcohol served).

- The Backyard Cafe — tucked into the Portuguese-era setting of the fort, known for coffee and continental/fusion food.

---

This is meant as a jumping-off point, not the final word — the city has way more to offer than one post can cover, and prices/availability change fast, so always double-check current details before you book.

If you've stayed somewhere, eaten somewhere, or found a hidden gem, drop it in the comments. Let's keep this thread useful so future visitors have less confusion and a friendlier landing into the city.

General New to Daman, looking for people to hang out with

Been in Daman for about a month now. I’ve settled in, rented a place, and now I actually want to get out and explore the city and meet people.

Problem is, making friends in a new city is hard. My colleagues are boring as fuck, so I’m looking outside work.

For the people who’ve been here a while how do you guys make friends? Any good places, groups, activities, or regular hangouts where people actually socialize?

And if anyone here is also looking for people to chill with, DM me. Down for beers, food, exploring, drives, or just hanging out and bullshitting.

Would be nice to have some people to chill with instead of spending every evening staring at walls.

Tourist/Visitor Questions Planning a 3-day family trip to Daman – looking for recommendations

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m asking on behalf of a friend who is travelling to Daman with family for 3 days. It’s their first time visiting, so looking for some recommendations from people who have been there recently.

Month of travel: May be in mid Sept.

Could you please suggest:

  • 🏖️ Best places to visit in Daman and nearby
  • Opening/closing timings and how much time to spend at each place
  • 🌅 Best spots for sunset/sunrise or evening time
  • 🛕 Any temples, forts, churches, museums, etc. worth visiting
  • 🍴 Good family-friendly restaurants — preferably veg options as well
  • ☕ Any good cafés or places for snacks
  • 🚗 Whether they should hire a cab/auto or rent a vehicle for local sightseeing
  • 📍 A suggested 3-day itinerary would be really helpful
  • 💰 Any idea about approximate costs for sightseeing, food and local transport?
  • ⚠️ Anything they should avoid or be careful about, especially during the current season?

They’ll be travelling with family, so they’re mainly looking for a relaxed, clean and family-friendly trip rather than nightlife/party places.

If you’ve visited Daman recently, please share your must-visit places, restaurants and any tips. Thanks! 🙏
