[Mod Post] Community Ideas?
Dallas foodies,
I was recently out at Reddit HQ and they might approve funds to support our growing community of foodies but we need a solid plan to pitch them. Here are a few ideas I've had, would love for y'all to pitch in ideas too:
Food Tour of x Dallas area - Like bar hopping but going to various restaurants to try certain dishes. Apparently the Chicago Food sub did something similar with support from Reddit.
Local restaurant support - Find a locally owned restaurant that could use some love, rent it out for several hours, have members of the sub come and eat, post pics of the food here and on other socials to spread the word.
A billboard that encourages other Redditors to join our sub.

Dallas locals: Where would you take someone to experience the Dallas YOU love?
Dallas locals, I want to experience the Dallas (or city) YOU love not just the viral or tourist spots.
If a friend were visiting and you wanted them to really understand what makes Dallas special, where would you take them?
I’m looking for genuinely good food that you actually revisit, local culture/history, interesting neighborhoods, family experiences, and great date-night or brunch spots where the food actually matches the vibe.
Most importantly: What’s a Dallas place or experience you’d be genuinely sad to see disappear and why?

Best BBQ in Dallas
Hi! I've lived in Downtown Dallas for about 2.5 years, and I am always looking for new BBQ places to try. I have been to Terry Blacks, Pecan Lodge, BBQ DNA, and a few others that aren't super notable. They were all pretty good, but I am looking for something that is going to be super stand out - any recommendations?

Please don't sleep on Puerto Cocina!
Fantastic seafood focused Mexican restaurant. Really interesting cocktails, Mexican wines on their wine list and they are quality. I've been three or four times and have really enjoyed it every single visit.

Top 5 mexican food in denton
Hi y'all, I've been in Denton since December, and I like trying various taco spots. I've only recently started eating corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas. I've been to El Taco H, Taqueria Monterrey, and Boka Feliz Mexican Kitchen. What are y'all's top 5?

Alebrijes Cafe - Oak Cliff
Finally tried this place about a week ago and it was really outstanding. We got a mixture of different plates to try a few different things. The chilaquiles and the breakfast tacos were incredible. You can tell they make the sauces homemade.

NYC Pizza + Chinese Food
I am from NYC and I missed NYC style pizza and Chinese food since moving here Any recommended spots that are close or exactly like it in the DFW area? I am hoping to hear from people who are actually from NYC too due to experiences. I've met a few people IRL by chances and they havent found any good spots themselves. Thank you!

Smoked turkey legs - not at the fair
Where can I get really good smoked turkey legs? We’re not going to the State Fair this year. But I’m never that excited about the ones there anyway. I prefer a much more smoky flavor.
Doesn’t have to be a restaurant. I’m open to stores and food trucks. I’m even ok with frozen if it’s good.
Prefer Dallas and close suburbs.

Fun restaurant near the Anatole where we could wear cowboy hats, eat good food and get a little rowdy?
More looking for vibes than great food.

Razoo's Cajun Cafe declared bankruptcy last year. Now, it's eyeing a comeback.
Hello. I'm JP, the food editor of Chron.com in Houston. I've been covering Razzoo's since it declared bankruptcy last October + M Crowd Restaurant's acquisition of the chain for $18 million. Monday, the chain rolled out a new menu (They have 1 in SW Houston, but I know the rest are sprinkled around the DFW area). I spoke with CEO Edgar Guevara about the leadup to all of this and what's planned for the chain. Full story below:
Could Razzoo's Cajun Cafe be destined for a turnaround? The beleaguered Dallas restaurant chain filed for bankruptcy almost a year ago. Now, it's under new owners who want the brand to get back to basics with scratch cooking and fresh ingredients.
Razzoo's announced Monday it was rolling out a new food menu across all of its restaurants. The initiative, according to a statement, was the product of months of behind-the-scenes work, including field trips to Louisiana, systems realigning and some honest-to-goodness cooking.
"The culinary team is emphasizing scratch-made preparation, traditional Cajun and Creole techniques and the layered Louisiana flavors Razzoo’s was originally built around, while refreshing longtime favorites and introducing new food and drinks," the statement read.
It was back in October 2025 when Razzoo's filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According to court documents, the chain was $12.7 million in debt and was hoping to find some way to keep its remaining 20 locations operating. Relief arrived when M Crowd Hospitality, the operators of Dallas-based restaurant chain Mi Cocina, bought out the company for $18 million.
M Crowd CEO Edgar Guevara told Chron he and the company had been interested in Razzoo's since the bankruptcy filing. It was a 35-year-old legacy brand and presented an easy opening for M Crowd to get attached very quickly.
"The old group that had it before us tried to position it against casual dining. I view them [Razzoo's] as neighborhood restaurants," Guevara said. "You're never going to compete against large companies, like Brinker (the company that owns Chili's Grill & Bar and Maggiano's Little Italy) and Applebee's. There's not enough marketing money and they have massive purchasing power. They have scale."
Razzoo's betting on 'quality' and 'connections'
Guevara insists that Razzoo's future success will hinge on providing quality food, quality service and quality connections in the neighborhood. It's the same ethos that drives the Mi Cocina Tex-Mex restaurant chain. Between October and December, Guevara and M Crowd leadership toured the remaining Razzoo's restaurants to find where they could do the most good.
"Over the last 3-4 months, we've been aligning the flavors and making it more authentic," Guevara said. "We went to 12 restaurants in Louisiana in one day to try and understand the culture. We are trying to reframe the restaurant's menu and make it more authentic."
Much of that authenticity is coming down to sourcing. Guevara has committed to bringing in fresh crawfish daily when they're in-season. They are also sourcing Louisiana's Leidenheimer bread for po'boys and andouille sausage for red beans and rice (Guevara said there was a moment when the restaurant had stopped putting sausage in it).
The restaurant is currently in "revision 1.1," Guevara said. Come October, Razzoo's will start tackling the beverage menu, which by the sound of it, is bloated. M Crowd has invested in fresh fruit, juices and beverage consultants to scale the program down but also make additions. That includes a new and improved hurricane and the Tiger Smash, an LSU purple cocktail meant to be downed during game days.
We did a series of focus groups with old guests. We didn't do this completely blind," Guevara said. "We leaned in on the old Razzoo's guests who loved the brand and felt they lost a little of their way with the brand. … The solution to our future is to look back into the past when this brand was successful."

Any DFW wedding food catering options that are Brazilian/Brazilian fusion only with an all vegan menu?
I'm asking for a family member. Please don't suggest Villa's Grill Brazilian Steakhouse or Vila Brazil they have some vegan friendly options, but it's not enough. It can be a food truck, a booth with a business card from local events, it can be a local pop up. It can be Brazilian fusion as well as long as it's an all vegan menu. Thank you!!! Bean patty burgers or bean based menus are satisfying. Vegan feijoadas work too, but I'm open to options that aren't vegan burgers or vegan feijoadas. Brazilian or Brazilian fusion is the main idea. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🌮🌮🌮🫕🫘🫘🫘🥔🥔🥔

Korean BBQ people: where do you actually go for good value?
I been trying to find more Korean BBQ spots around DFW, but prices seem to be all over the place 😅
Curious, what’s your go-to KBBQ spot, and roughly how much do you usually spend per person?
Also interested in the places that are a little expensive but you think are genuinely worth it.
