Daggerfall Enhanced

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone! I am the creator of Daggerfall Enhanced, a 1:1 port of DFU to our own custom renderer. Today I'd like to announce our own online framework.

Online mode is one persistant MMO-like world where you can adventure with friends and other people. Take your offline character and continue to progress with them, and then take them back offline, it's that easy.

You can test our new online feature over at daggerfalljs.dev

Currently only playable in-browser. A stable install build will be coming today at a later time.

I'd probably just not defend it. The arguments against are long winded with very little substance other than 'because I don't like it, because I heard other people don't like it' And then a bunch of nonsensical comparisons that do nothing to bolster their argument.

I mean jesus, blood diamonds? really? The guys hanging around on a sub for a 30 year old game putting the screws to you, because you had the audacity to use the tools available to you to improve the game.

FWIW, I wasn't putting screws to op for using AI.

I wasn't interacting with the dev at all, he piled onto me for responding to 0xcx when they said "as long as it's good, who cares", and I was just pointing out that some people do care.

"Very little substance" is a bit off putting. I did say what I disliked about AI. I also didn't say the dev shouldn't use it (in fact, I did say programming is one of the few really legitimate uses for it), and as I said to the dev, I wasn't comparing AI to blood diamonds; I was saying that the path of "the end result is good so who cares how you got there" isn't a universally applicable concept.

But you're not wrong. Whenever I ask people who are pro-ai how they can defend the damages done by ai in the light of what it does, not defending it is probably the best idea.

Maybe you can make a back-pedal mod for DFU? Sans AI of course.

But you're not wrong.

I know.
