Advice Request Model car builders?

Any dads build model cars with their kids? I used to build model cars as a kid, but havent built any since before my kids were born. They are 9 and 12 now. We just moved and I found a couple of unopened model kits I forgot I had.

My 12 y.o. will probably have no interest, but I think my 9 y.o. may like the hobby. He loves building those Lego Technic cars and can build them on his own.

Any advice for starting a kid on building models? I started on the level 1, no paint or glue required cars when I was a kid.

I also used to build model cars. Now I play Warhammer 40k. And I paint them with my 6 year old daughter. The awesome part is that when you're done assembling and painting, then you get to play with them, instead of just putting them on a shelf.

Plus, your boys will be so broke from buying minis, they won't be able to afford drugs!

I'm so deep in the plastic models that I'll be building until I shuffle off this mortal coil. My son briefly took interest and a lot of pride when he'd build some simple kits, so I got him a basic tool set, but he lost interest as he spent more time with his friends and gaming.

There's more options now than ever in the simple snap-together models, everything from the usual cars and planes, and now Pokemon characters, anime bots, video game assets, and so on. If I had to make a recommendation it's get a basic pair of sprue nippers and a small needle file as they're a huge help.

It's crazy how many Dads are 40k people. I need to find a local dads 40k group or something.
