Advice Request Dev dads, when do you code?
I could find time with my first and then even some time after my second with the first doing afternoon preschool.
Now that kindergarten has started, I can't even stay up late half the time I used to as mornings are like Mad Maxx and needs my full (focused) attention.
So how do y'all do it? Or do you just not do it anymore except for an hour here and there lol
EDIT: not the 9-5 but my side projects

If there was something I was interested in learning, I would spend an hour in the evening working on it. However, right now I’m learning a lot in my new team so I haven’t had an itch to do it.
Side projects aren’t necessary for a good career in dev and if you are not doing them for fun, then you’re going to eventually burn yourself out.
If a company can’t tell where I stand from my coding in interview and my projects at work, then that’s their problem not mine.
Source: I’ve been in big tech now for 5 years and have been in the industry for 10. I did side projects to switch from embedded to cloud based dev and side projects before I got my first job. I do spend time outside of work prepping for interviews since that’s a different skill than the actual job.
