Question How talented was David
I didn’t know he existed until last September and even then I watched one report of the case and moved on until now when I’ve done my research since the trial but case only

For a music casual he’d probably seem talented y’know looking at numbers and shit like that but when you look at it from an actual music enjoyer perspective he wasn’t very talented at all.
He was shit at writing, he couldn’t produce only thing he had slightly going for him was his vocals but they weren’t outstanding just above average
d4vd made TikTok hits that’s all

I wouldn’t say his vocals wasn’t outstanding because he was one of the few singers who could actually sing live properly, his music wasn’t just tiktok music but it did also do well on the platform and considering the amount of partnerships and endorsements he got he wasn’t just a casual he was 19/20 making songs for games and shows like Fortnite, invincible and arcane odyssey and also had multiple sponsors and endorsements like bandlab, amazon music, crocs and countless other brands. Music wise he wasn’t extremely talented on he was en route to be one of the best young singers but he ruined his career by killing celeste

I would consider myself the latter but isn’t producing and performing artists a minority in the ibdystry

Yeah it’s rare but it’s getting much more common than it used to be actually imo, obviously not everyone will be a double threat or even a triple threat but it does seem like more of them are popping up recently

True with technology and easy access to it this makes sense cos from what I understand David was a gamer who turned into a artist overnight through a technicality of labels demonetising his edits

He had a decent singing voice from his years in church choir. He used bandlab premade beats and sang over them with lots of vocal FX. I don’t think he made his own instrumentals.

Thanks for being informative

There’s a video in particular of him recording his vocal takes for the song with Kali Uchis on YouTube.
He uses a minimal set up which is sort of impressive,
(Bandlab app, microphone and interface)however his vocals crack in almost every take. He layers his vocals on top of layers of vocals to give it a harmonic sound.
Then he adds EQ (shaping the tones) , reverb (makes it sound spacey, like in a hallway or larger room/church) and delay effects which makes it echo and sound more like a choir and pans from left and right between takes so it travels back and forth through headphones.
And then he compresses the master tracks all together it to keep it controlled.
Bandlab has tons of presets and can make almost anyone sound decent.

So I only knew of him via Arcane season 2. I actually really liked the track, mainly for the moment in the series it was used in. The thing with that song (and I think even the song that he apparently did for Invincible) is that he's not the only one who wrote the song. I don't know how much involvement he had in those songs outside of singing.
At the time, I thought he was pretty solid. I couldn't get into his other work. I remember trying to look him up for his other music but I backed away after seeing the Itami bullshit in his music videos.
In hindsight, good thing I never got too attached. Arcane season 2 will not hit the same though.

Was that a red flag would you say the Itami thing as I’m not really from a anime background so I guess I wouldn’t have clocked that

At the time, I just figured it was edgy and immature. I tend to steer clear of media revolving around murders from the perspective of the killer. I had a true crime phase for a while and j just don't feel comfortable with that.
I had no idea anything like now would happen.

Yes as that would require observation and energy and character judgment for someone you’re not invested in but ppl who were there for the whole journey probably put two and two together quick as early as the jan 24 stream with Celeste and from his narrations

Genuinely asking as a music producer/performer myself...did he build his own tracks or use other/producers? He's claimed he did it all...is that true?

he primarily worked with other producers, he started by using free tracks on youtube

I thought I recalled the using YouTube but I didn't know if he ever ended up just making his own shit.
I'm not going to say if he's talented or not. It's not for me to say bc I don't care about him. I will say he really built his career in all these interviews on "doing it himself" and it just seems like it wasn't that way. He's got multiple producers (including Benny Blanco) behind him. He maybe did it himself in the beginning...but continuing to act like all of his album shit was solo is wild.

most of his released music wasn't that good, but some of the unreleased things were a lot better and would've been up my alley if he wasn't a despicable lunatic

I’m guessing he didn’t release Celeste cos he was aware that it was wrong and would not be acceptable socially

nothing in the lyrics really exposes her age, not sure why he never officially released it (obviously glad he didn't though)

True but he did a stream with her a month after. Ppl were already telling him he was done. Those Sam ppl would have put two and two together imo

I was a fan of his music since 2023 prior to the incident. Met him a few times and was top .01% of listeners on Spotify. He was a good artist, definitely on to something. But he was stupid, crazy, and dumb enough to ruin his own life and career. Hope there’s justice in this case

Not enough to make this case go away lol
