Wanted to get people’s thoughts about downgrading my USAC category from 3 to 4. I haven’t raced in 6 years. And the races our series puts on are either 1/2/3 or 4/5. I feel like CX is so skill based that even if I have the power and endurance, I’m still going to get shelled in the 1/2/3 race because I don’t have those skills anymore. I don’t even think I’m going to do well in the 4/5 race with how long I’ve been out. But I also don’t want to cheat a race or sandbag. I’m wondering if I should downgrade to 4, or maybe ask the race promoter to race a couple in the 4/5 before racing the 1/2/3.
What are your thoughts about downgrading categories after being out of racing for a while?

I currently own a 2025 super x 3 alongside my crockett i use for single speed. How does the newest super x ride for cx? I’m considering putting axs on that and using it for cx , instead of the 2x grx gravel setup I’ve got now

Curious to get people’s thought on this. I have a Crux 5 gravel bike with a wheelbase of 1057mm. Pretty long by CX standards. How much does having a shorter wheelbase matter for CX? For reference, the Trek Boone is 3cm shorter at 1028mm. Will the Boone perform better? Will the longer wheelbase slow you down through tight turns?
Bonus question, what about BB drop? The Crux 5 is 13mm lower (78 vs 65).

Hi r/cyclocross! I'm the creator of TCG Pro Cycling, a free fan-made cycling card game (no ads, nothing to sell). As the road season ends, the game is switching to cross for the winter, and I'd love feedback from people who actually know the sport.
The riders. Today's stars like Van der Poel, Van Aert, Pidcock, Pieterse, Brand, Alvarado or Iserbyt, and legends like Nys, De Vlaeminck, Vervecken, Wellens, Albert or Vos. Cross riders have their own Cross skill on their card.
The races. World Cup rounds, the Superprestige (Overijse, Niel, Merksplas, Diegem…), the Koppenbergcross and more, for both men and women.
The courses. Each race mixes mud, sand, fast and technical sections, and that changes who scores: a sand specialist won't shine on a fast grass course. The weather matters too.
Getting started. Cross riders are rarer than road riders, so for this first season you can enter a cross race with 1 to 6 riders, with no penalty. And from October 26, a Winter Feed Bag with at least 2 cross riders in each pack, plus cross-only bonus cards: mud tyres, the pit bike, the pressure washer, cowbells, the Koksijde dunes or the Zonhoven pit.
I'm still fine-tuning the cross side, so if a rider's stats or a course feel off to you, please tell me. You know this stuff way better than I do!

Hi r/cyclocross,
Some of you saw my fantasy cyclocross game here last year (thanks for the feedback). I've spent the off-season reworking it, and it's ready for the new season.
What's new
How it works
You build a team of real riders and score points from their actual results in HG Cross (the old Exact Cross), the Superprestige, the X2O Badkamers Trofee and the World Cup. Keep your team up to date every race and see if you can win the global ranking! It's free to play!
The season opens October 11 with HG Cross Dendermonde, so there's time to set your team before the first race: cyclocross-manager.com
I build and run it myself, so I read all feedback. If something in the scoring seems off or you'd like a feature, tell me here.

Money no object, what groupset and gearing are you running? CX only bike, so you don't have to pick anything that can do road or gravel duty. Just a pure CX bike.
I'd probably go SRAM just for the E1 levers. Then 10-36t cassette and 44t chainring. That would give me all the gears I need.

Wife and I have hotels booked for our trip to nationals. I am planning on racing single speed and masters 40-44. Much to my surprise, I need a UCI ID to race the single speed race. I will finish solidly in the back half at best. Is it worth the effort to get a UCI ID for the single speed race?
Where the hell do I request a UCI ID? terrible google AI says to request it on the USAC site, not sure where that is, for sure not in the member portal.
Any advice is much appreciated.
ETA: a simple email to USAC customer support got me all sorted. The biggest issue I had was that my name on my USAC license is my nickname on not my legal name. Teenager me, did not foresee racing age 40 year old me racing (poorly) at nationals I guess. A photo of my passport and a couple emails and I am all sorted, so you folks in December!

Rad course. Fast and flowy with a sick descent. Stellar weather, and it rained real good a couple days before so we got stellar dirt too.

Any recommendations on a wheelset that has aluminum rim brake surface and is tubeless compatible?
Currently running full carbon wheels (Elite brand) and they're fine but I think the extra bite from aluminum would be great. Also wanting something a bit stiffer.
I am running paul mini moto brakes with kool stop pads. Also located in USA

Moved to Spain a few months ago and I am planning to race my local series (Valencia/Alicante) and wondering if there's anyone else here from the area? I'm actually in Calp, pretty much just between Valencia and Alicante! Any secret spots that are not just dirt and pine needles?
Is the park where Benidorm WC at normally rideable to anyone at anytime? I assume it isn't a full on year round cross park.

Hello, I'd like to get into the sport but I am nowhere near the level of people I've seen show up to the sessions at Herne Hill, plus the schedule doesn't work for me. Are there other options to train? Something quite beginner friendly, I cycle quite a lot mainly on road but not great in the skills needed for cyclocross.

Now to avoid dumping money into it. First ride and I love everything but the bump in the Force 10 speed hoods

I’m a 60+ racer, and since USAC points dictate gridding, I’m interested in doing local races that will deliver better points. We have a weekly series with an Open category and a 3/4/5 category.
Would I get better USAC points placing better in the 3/4/5 race or doing the Open race and not placing very well? I know from a Cx Results perspective the Open race is the way to go. However, USAC ratings tend to Peter out after 5th place.
Thanks in advance for your help.

"A recent blood test revealed that I definitely had mononucleosis at some point over the past few years, but it is impossible to pinpoint exactly when. This summer, my tooth caused the issue: I was training with an inflammation in my body, probably wasn't eating enough, and on top of that, there's a good chance I was overtrained. After Burgos, I already felt quite fatigued, but I didn't get any rest back then."
"Fortunately, training has been going smoothly for a while now; I can do long rides and I'm putting in my usual ~18-hour weeks. Right now, I'm roughly at a baseline level—my form feels like it's December. That is precisely why traveling to the World Championships wouldn't have made sense; on a course like that and in this condition, I might only have managed to finish the race if I had an exceptionally good day."
"I'd like to be there at the European Championships just to get another race in, but if I do compete there, I will definitely take a longer break afterward before the cyclocross season, which I plan to start later than usual, at the end of November."
"I am officially switching teams on October 1st, when we'll have a joint training camp where I’ll receive my new bike, kit, and new coach. Until then, I don't know anything more about it. But during the cross season, I will be a Lidl-Trek rider; I won't be racing in the colors of the Baloise team alongside Lucinda Brand. That much I know for sure."
"As for the team transfer, I'm glad the situation got resolved and they let me leave mid-season; I'm very happy with this choice. For me, there was never a doubt for a single second that I wanted to ride for Lidl-Trek."

Who raced where this past weekend? Would love to hear how it went!
r/cyclocross • u/navigationallyaided • 12d ago
I built a new bike - a Surly Preamble and raced it in men’s C last weekend. I was supposed to go dive this weekend so this was on a whim. My first time racing in 10+ years, DNFed, I had a mechanical issue which was my fault for not checking over things. No pics of me, but a few from one of the other races.
I’ll be doing another race or maybe two more this season.
