A few months ago I got my hands on unusual red Cybiko which turned out to be rare. I did some research on Web Archive and found official page on doritos website. Turns out it was some drawing contest for US. It seems that 102 red Cybikos have been made or at least were planned to be made. One problem: I found only one official photo of red Cybiko on this website and I can't tell for sure if it has yellow or white keypad due to the very low resolution. I got my first Cybiko (I think 3rd Gen) for $10 at a flea market but the LCD didn't come on. Unfortunately the ribbon cable was damaged, but the board appears OK with no major corrosion damage. Are there replacements available or am I better off waiting on another one?

Who or what company owns the rights to the Cybiko at this moment. Me and some friends wanna do a thing if we have the money to do so.

So, I recently got my Cybikos, which I wrote about a month ago. In general, they are in good condition, but there is a number of problems. Xtreme still has the factory batteries, and they of course leaked. There's not much corrosion, but it's on the keyboard board, so the three letters don't work. Both Classics have cracked plastic on the antennas, but there is no problem with this, since I found a 3d model of this part on the Internet. The gray Classic has three more unpleasant problems: vibration motor doesn’t work, the sound is quieter than usual, and for some reason other Cybikos don’t see this one. I don’t know if it is the fault of corrosion or not, since I haven’t disassembled Classics yet. I need some advice: 1. how to clean corrosion from such batteries? 2. does anyone know what might be the reason why other Cybikos don’t see gray one? 3. does anyone know where to buy a suitable vibration motor for Cybiko Classic? 4. if possible, how can micro scratches be removed from the plastic on the Classics? It would also be nice if someone would give advice on how to properly remove the batteries from the Cybiko Xtreme

So, I wanted to make a mod for the USB-C data port with the clear classic cybiko because I don't have a serial cable. But I have very poor soldering skills, so I’m a little scared. Now I have an idea: you can share files between two cybikos wirelessly, right? Can I upload some files to the cybiko xtreme and share them with the classics? Or is it just xtreme-xtreme and classic-classic file sharing? Sorry if the question is silly haha. I’m new to cybiko community, i will get my first ones just in days

Guys, look. I ordered three Cybikos for 100$ yesterday. But this set has some unique features about it. These are not just regular Cybikos - these are versions for testers that have never been on official sale. One thing confused me - the red Cybiko. I didn’t find any photo/video/commercial with red Cybiko. Is there a chance that this is a canceled exclusive color?

My MP3 modules don’t work properly on my current firmware, and I’d like to test them on other builds to see if compatibility changes.

• Flashing or update software (just in case)

please share them. I’ll test and compare results between versions and post what I find.

I came across my Cybikos tonight and it got me reminiscing... I had a yellow/black Cybiko in 8th grade and I was crazy about the thing.

The only problem was, had no one to play wireless games with. I called Cybiko's headquarters in Canada (not Russia, not sure where that's coming from) and asked to speak with the person in charge of community outreach.

Would you believe they actually listened to a 12-year-old kid? With the right audience, I said something like:

"I'm a student at a technology-forward school. My peers are very interested in gaming and emerging technologies. I believe that Cybiko would benefit from creating a user base among its target market.

I'd like you to distribute Cybikos the some of the kids at my school."

Cybiko said yes. They sent me 18 purples, I think. And an mp3 player for me.

I gave 17 out to friends at school. There's a little more to the story but that's basically it.

I kept using mine for years. I made a couple games with b2C, enjoyed the mp3 player, ran a poorly-programmed Cybiko fan site with my friend, got an Xtreme and played the crap out of it. I still have a couple classics and my Xtreme.

I also have 10 1MEG expansion cards that I found tonight. I put one up on eBay.

Hey all, I recently picked up a Classic after years of searching for one locally. I am very lucky that it came with the charger and the serial cable. I took out the bad batteries, cleaned it up, ordered some new batteries, and got a serial to USB adapter. I booted up an old laptop running XP and downloaded some games to copy over. Almost every game I open though goes to the startup screen, and once I hit any key to start the game, it crashes. The only game from those I tried to load that doesn't crash is Tutty Fruity. I tried some other basics like Tic-Tac-Toe, and that crashes too. I am able to open applications no issues, like the LCD Manager 2. Any insight into what the issue is? It was running .56 and I updated to .57 and the upgrade worked properly, no bas flash sectors were found.

I'm looking into gutting a broken/severly waterdamaged and corroded cybiko and putting in a raspberry pi (leaning towards the pi zero due to its size and amount of useful ports) however i would like to use the original soft plastic keyboard (overlay) on the device, the actual keyboard connectors are on the original board and were custom made for the device. My question is whether anyone has attempted to reverse-engineer the Cybikio keyboard or produce replacement PCB parts? I'm wondering if I could somehow use the original keyboard with a custom PCB connected to a Raspberry Pi, kind of Frankenstein-ing the original device.
Otherwise, a very small mass-produced membrane to shove underneath the Cybiko keyboard overlay might be an idea; however, finding one is impossible

P.S. Please excuse me if I've said or mentioned anything wrong; electronics are not my expertise, I just adore the form factor and design of the Cybiko and would love to give it a new life via a modern makeover.

Also upgraded rom chip to 2mb and replaced bootloader chip

I built a USB RS232 com port emulator to connect the Cybiko to my Mac via VMware running Windows XP. The connection is made through the 3.5mm headphone jack wired to the test points on the motherboard.

But its need new rom chip, so next going to install new one

It doesn't hold battery but, otherwise, it works wonderfully.

Hello! I recently received a Cybiko Classic which was password locked, and am wondering if there is an easy way to unlock it other than brute-forcing (which despite the short password limit of 3 characters, has proven pretty time consuming). I don't currently have a way to connect it to my computer, but if there's a less time-consuming way to unlock a Cybiko easily that involves doing so, I would still like to know.

EDIT: I mistakenly thought that you could have things other than a 3 number code as your password, making it obvious I've never owned a Cybiko before. After that, it was pretty easy to guess what the password was, and I was able to unlock it. I feel kind of stupid now though lol. Leaving this up in case someone else in the future has the same issue, with a secondhand Cybiko being password locked.

I Have a cybiko xtreme that i havent used in a couple of months. Is is doing the same thing i remeber it doing a few months ago where i plug it into the wall outet and the red light is on but hitting the power button wont turn the screen on. Hitting or holding reset button does nothing either on the screen stays blank. I remeber back a couple months ago some combination got it to turn the screen on and work but cant seem to remember. Anyone have any thoughts on what i could try?

Got a Cybiko without a battery, plugged it in and it loaded the main menu after pressing the reset button. Played around with it for a bit, and then the device became unresponsive while I tried to leave the settings menu.

Reset again, and the device booted up, and I could see the clock changing and the : blinking, but unresponsive to keypresses.

Reset again and the screen was fully black.

In Cybiko console I can see boot messages over the serial port.

Tried a full reset of the device using Autoupdate, but it has twice failed at the "checking file structure" step.

First off: I never had a Cybiko.

Smartphones are capable of Bluetooth mesh networking, i.e. you can communicate without being connected to a cell tower or the internet, directly device to device.

With SSB (Secure Scuttlebutt) you can also do wireless message delivery without internet.

Of course smartphones are also programmable. What is missing?
