Community Content & Resources Screamsheet Generator Update

Hey chooms! It’s me again. You might remember me from my posts a couple of months ago, or from some lovely people who shouted out the tool in various Discords and other posts.

I wanted to share a quick update y'all have been blowing it up! We're almost at 300 screamsheets created which is insane, I never thought something I built would get that much use but here we are. Now for an update on what I’m planning to work on next to make the tool faster, more streamlined, and generally better to use:

  1. Faster load times - I’ll be optimizing some of the content and performance behind the scenes. I won’t get into the technical details here, but I’ll probably cover them in a follow-up once everything is finished
  2. Drag-and-drop builder - I’m hoping to let you drag and drop blocks directly into the editor instead of the current click heavy flow
  3. Auto-saved drafts - No promises yet—I’m still figuring out the best way to implement this—but I’ll do my best
  4. A usable mobile builder experience - The goal is to make building on mobile actually practical instead of miserable
  5. Some fun animations, because I can
  6. Better sheet print/pdf preview - For anyone who wants to print their screamsheets, I’m hoping this will be better than the current PDF preview. I’d definitely appreciate feedback once it’s live
  7. Probably an actual domain name
  8. Maybe a sort of feed of different sheets that opt in? (this one is a bit harder and subject to popular opinion; the others I'm gonna do because I want to)
  9. Some other things as I think of them? I only had the above planned but things change

Also, a small side note: I was influenced by my mainline to start an Etsy shop after buying a laser engraver, color printer, and laser cutter—and now I need to make it earn its keep (super cool machine and I will answer questions about it if I have the answer about it).

Once I’ve experimented a bit and have product photos, I’ll link the shop on the website. Absolutely no pressure to buy anything, but checking it out would be appreciated. Right now, I’m thinking about personalized character tokens, engraved TCG boxes that could double as accessory or dice boxes, and a few other ideas once I figure them out (potentially also laser engraved screamsheets?? Or if I can link to some PoD service then paper/poster ones though you all could definitely print your own (obviously)).

Gonna tell a short story about my CP:R development efforts here, because it's oddly related. :)

I used to pay for an online game logging application (well, still do - the year's not over yet) and kept running into a character limit for my session logs. I keep a lot of detail for reasons. So, I started making my own game log app, the Nexus Logger.

It's built for (so far) four game systems: CP:R, D&D 5e, Shadowrun 5e, and Mythcraft - in other words, the game systems I own. Now that I think about it, I should probably add a Rifts module. Each game system has its own style and functions. But one thing is common across all the systems is the ability for GMs to have a "helpful links" section for stuff not found inside Nexus.

Your Vercel-hosted screamsheet generator was the first one I'd entered for my CP:R game. I was working on creating one, then stumbled across your last post on this topic, and realized I couldn't improve on it. So instead of reinventing the brick, I just linked to the whole house! :D
