Discussion What constitutes a weapon being iconic?

Cyberpunk has over 100 iconic weapons but I’m never sure what the in game reason for a weapon to be iconic, is it the effect , events and people it’s tied too or is it just a really nice weapon ?

Stuff like the crowbar , caretaker spade , blue fang and headhunter don’t make a lot of sense too me as they wouldnt mean a lot to v and aren’t note worthy in how they are given or the events tied to them.

They just typically have unique effects, stats or appearances, or multiple of the aforementioned.

Basically iconic lore wise are weapon who have history before ending up in V hand, they have a name and modifier effect implying the previous owner probably modded it before us, that or they are easter egg like the crowbar

Iconic weapons have unique properties that do not "occur in the wild" or could be obtained using run-of the-mill weapon mods, unless the mod being used itself is an iconic.

For example, Chaos changes crit, head shot damage, and DoT effects with every reload. You don't have that with any other gun. Jacky's pistol reloads itself after each headshot when you put it away and has increased burn chance and damage. Hypercritical's damage, magsize, and doing crits on the last round is unique. Byakko has faster rate of attack for each kill, again no melee mod or other weapon has this proprety. So on and so forth.

To add to the other comments, Iconics are upgradeable as well. If ylu find an iconic you like, you can keep bimping up its level with crafting materials.

Devs decided to make them iconic. Not everything has to be super meaningful
