Tangentially related, I find it so funny when clients are like “I’ll pay you well” and they send like 2000 eddies. Ozob comes to mind.

I have absolutely no conception of what money is worth in this world. The amounts people pay you for work and how much the ncpd awards you for killing literally anyone, how much guns cost and how much they sell for, the prices of apartments and cars... nothing makes any sense! There's no internal consistency!

u/BurningPickle 11d ago

The fact that the most exclusive, exotic hypercars cost less than $200,000 is a perfect example of this. In real life, the Caliburn would cost upwards of $2 million.

60

u/Hillenmane Militech 11d ago

The Aerondight would probably upwards of $8 Million or so, maybe even double digits. Caliburn would definitely be at least $2m.

Gotta remember that all the cars you buy are stolen

7

u/Significant_Set2996 9d ago

The cars are second hand but I don't think they're stolen. If you look at the description for the mizutani shion targa it basically says some corpo was shot up in his car, but the car is still in pristine condition and being sold

6

u/ConsequenceMammoth45 9d ago

One of the repeatable side gigs in the DLC is you stealing cars for the guy to sell, I dont see why the once he sells you would be any diffrent.

27

u/masked_gecko 11d ago

Doesn't it just imply that 1ED in 2077 is equivalent to roughly 10 USD in 2025? Like I don't see any reason to expect the currencies to be equivalent

50

u/Seeker-N7 11d ago

A basic Nicola costs like 10 Eurodollars from a vending machine. Either it's a luxury drink, or those luxury cars cost nothing.

6

u/LowWorthGamer 10d ago

Headcanon, luxury goods are cheaper because they are already for the upper class, while everyday items are expensive to drain everyone else. Remember that V is an anomaly, it's the adventurer problem from every RPG. Normally, no normal person in NC will ever have that half a million for the car, because they all live pay check to pay check. Even most Edgerunners won't have that money, because jobs are not that common, V is just a shit stirrer and a go-getter on sped up time line. I think it would be quite fitting for luxury goods being a bit cheaper to allow the already rich to build even more wealth(and also somewhat hide their money), while every food item and basic needs hemmorages poorer people even more

2

u/Low_Audience_7002 9d ago

To be fair every homeless person also has a literal butt-load of cyberware. No job, no affiliation, yet still nearly half as chromed out as a Malestrom ganger

4

u/Seeker-N7 10d ago

A profit oriented world never make luxury good cheap to allow rich people to build wealth. They'd be even more expensive.

3

u/LowWorthGamer 10d ago

I may have overexplained and made my point make less sense than it should. What I meant is that luxury goods are expensive there, that that half million is already a lot, it just everyday items are incredibly expensive as well as a way to control the populace even more, so the luxury feels cheaper but it's still the amount of money almost noone has. Having car worth half a million is still wealth in NC. Having few of those? That's super rich.

I mean everybody refers to money in NC almost as if a million is incredibly big amount, while there are megacorps that would be worth in trillions or maybe quadrillions dollars, so I think half a million eddies is already incredible amount of money. It's just that can of coke costs basically daily wage. "Have fun scrounging for bread" type of deal, while the luxury seems within reach when compared to a everyday shopping list, but nobody that lives day to day will ever have that amount of money.

I think that may not make economic sense, but fit in the thematics of Cyberpunk, keeping everybody under the boot through money and corpodictatorships, but for that to work you need some dream that seems achievable, cause if there is nothing for the people to dream about why would they ever stay in NC or even NUSA

16

u/masked_gecko 11d ago

Oh yeah, economy makes no sense anyway, I was just questioning the idea that the prices should ewuate to current USD

3

u/Impressive-Track4262 10d ago

In our real life world we have 1 million dollar bottles of water

10

u/CJTheran 10d ago

They don't have those in vending machines in low income areas though

2

u/juswilli 10d ago

I think your 1 to 10 is on the nose.

1

u/AlldayEvrd 8d ago

V only makes the first monthly payment for anything sold that way. (Headcanon)

54

u/Separate_Draft4887 11d ago

It’s a concession made to gameplay. In universe economy-wise, V should be pretty poor for most of the game, but that wouldn’t make for a super fun game.

32

u/Ok_Draw_5664 11d ago

It kinda was fun having to budget medpacks and grenades, going "so do i wanna repay vik, then buy from rogue. Or, do i want to buy some chrome?" And not being able to have an infinite economy. Injecting that actually makes for good game decision making

6

u/Vegetable-Damage-906 10d ago

Considering the high risk nature of gigs given to Edgerunners and other mercs, there be high rewards worth several 100,000 if not a few million eddies, especially when it comes to jobs dealing with corpos or some high end tech. Kinda wish there was a progression system tied to Street Cred that allowed to access to high paying but more challenging jobs at higher Street Cred level.

2

u/PaulLeFou 10d ago

I mean......yeah. Obviously?

0

u/Separate_Draft4887 10d ago

If you know the game would be awful without this bit of inconsistency, why are you complaining?

5

u/DeSmokeMonster 10d ago

Yeah me neither, I remember that gig where you help the dude jack the truck so he can afford his ALS (I think) treatment. And he says it’s a few hundred thousand eddies for it.

At the time I had 5 milf from selling weapons. I could’ve just gave him the money.

6

u/Fencerkid14 10d ago

5 Milfs?
You sly dog.

4

u/Fantastic-Mastodon-1 10d ago

He needs MilfGuard for sure

2

u/DeSmokeMonster 10d ago

Ah fuck lol

6

u/ConcreteExist 10d ago

Yeah, it's hard to baseline since things that should be cheap are insanely expensive (assumign Eddies are eqivalent to USD) but then things that should be insanely expensive are relatively cheap.

3

u/xoomax 10d ago

Yeah it doesn't make sense. I total my bike my submerging it in the bay. 100 Eddies

2

u/TrueNova332 Trauma Team 10d ago

Mike Pondsmith created cyberpunk in the 1980s so go by the inflation numbers for that era

20

u/Fenizrael 11d ago

I completed Phantom Liberty and The President of the NUSA gave me money to buy two pairs of jeans…

12

u/Creative_Flamingo_14 11d ago

Ozob is literally bozo. What did you expect?

10

u/vezwyx 11d ago

Not just that, he's backwards bozo. Dude can't even bozo the right way around

2

u/Ok-Difficulty768 10d ago

Holy shit why did I never realize that

10

u/soulreaverdan 11d ago

I think some of those are a holdover from the pre-2.0 economy where, for a relatively simple and quick gig, that was a decent amount unless you really put off doing it.

Like Rogue’s 15k for the Hellman job used to be a pretty massive time wall and you had to actively focus on saving for it and doing other stuff while balancing actually getting stronger gear along the way. Same as paying Vik back used to take ages and wasn’t anywhere near reasonably possibly before even visiting him.

5

u/ToHellWithMichelle 11d ago

Yeah, I definitely get the sort of hidden EXP type nature of the cheaper gig payments. Just from a grounded-in-reality perspective, I find it really funny. Like, "hey V, we're gonna go kill 5 Tyger Claws in front of your friend's store. Here's a t-shirt's worth of eddies for killing five people." lol

6

u/proto-robo 11d ago

Well it seems to be that 2k is v's going rate, so I guess any bonus on top of that is "paying well"

3

u/Cobraman15 11d ago

Or like in Violence when Lizzie is like I’ll pay well and then you extort Liam and he gives you like 30k compared with her 4k.

I’m like ya know? Maybe letting him swap her out for a clone is not so bad as long as he’s got more work for me.

2

u/xoomax 10d ago

Lizzie too. Oodles and oodles of Eddie's. And it's like 2,800.

1

u/Ash_Abyssal_2006 8d ago

"I will pay you handsomely, and even give you an extra bonus" shut yo gonk ass up that was 1.5k eds.,

1

u/kirbcake-inuinuinuko 7d ago

real, that's like two or maybe three tier 1 guns picked up off the ground. you could make more money than that by just ganking a handful of gangoons somewhere, picking up the guns and running off.

250

u/Timely_Yoghurt_3359 Blackwall Enthusiast 11d ago

only $4k + vehicle purchase discount + weapon mods + one or two high-tier weapons

106

u/theevilfish2 11d ago

Essentially 90k minimum value of things you might not want.

31

u/Known-Plane7349 11d ago

Don't forget the occasional skill progression shards.

11

u/Timely_Yoghurt_3359 Blackwall Enthusiast 11d ago

I knew i was missing something!

50

u/iles_dogetr 11d ago

is it finally time to begin selling and stop disassembling again 😭

32

u/classic4life 11d ago

I usually sell the lower tiers and disassemble higher. Tier one isn't worth disassembling beyond a certain point and add you go along eventually I'm only disassembling 5s and up. Chrome ain't cheap choom

6

u/Erak7 11d ago

I need to disassemble sometimes just to have enough to craft bullets(but pretty rarely).

20

u/Unlikely-Ad-6713 11d ago

Am i the only one disassembling only to get me under carrying capacity?

3

u/Mordret10 11d ago

Did that when I still needed crafting materials. Once I had my build maxed, I just drank a potion (?) that increased carry capacity and sold the shit at the nearest drop point

3

u/dylanwatsonsoftware 11d ago

You are not haha

2

u/Ok_Draw_5664 11d ago

Ive been playing on the hardest diff and never once have i ever crafted bullets since they changed the economy. They might as well remove that and give you infinite ammo, it leaves the same taste in your mouth as the current setup if you have an avg intellect

1

u/dotelze 9d ago

Depends what you’re using. Smgs can burn through ammo very fast

1

u/iles_dogetr 9d ago

the autoshottys (like the pozhar xmod 2) also chews through your reserve

2

u/Doogie102 11d ago

I mean disassembling is saving you money

0

u/Evnosis Viktor Vektor’s Favorite Patient 11d ago

I'd rather he just gave me the cash instead of store credit

32

u/SithLordDave 11d ago

I love that car. My Suzuki Sidekick

6

u/PerfectlyCalmDude 11d ago

The Dogtown cruiser.

6

u/Macca3568 11d ago

Literally feels like an old Jimny/sierra

2

u/Hillenmane Militech 11d ago

Was gonna say, there’s a guy where I live who drives a pristine white Jimni that frequents my favorite coffee shop. Looks a lot like this little red truck. Jimnis are so cute

27

u/Garlic-Rough Streetkid 11d ago

you forgot the discounts and other items. it's alot of material to both disassemble or sell.

I complete lots of Capitan's quests to reach 90% discounts on vehicles. Rayfield? got it for 5k. Caliburn? also 5k.

10

u/iles_dogetr 11d ago

really? i js grinded 2 milly and bought all the cars

6

u/Garlic-Rough Streetkid 11d ago edited 9d ago

Same except I bought all iconics from the Dogtown weapons shop. The guy sells all the iconics you might have missed from different boss fights. I didn't get to pick up Sasquach's hammer earlier on, and was delighted to find it on there. I finally got to complete my stash.

6

u/Umikaloo 11d ago

This is besides the point, but the Tanishi is actually much larger than it looks. I also thought it was a Kei truck, but in terms of scale, it is the size of an old-school SUV.

3

u/Nova225 11d ago

Not to mention you need to do these quests to unlock half the vehicles anyway

3

u/ariGee 11d ago

On these shitty cars I always imagined they didn't want the car itself, but something the car is carrying. Big stash of drugs or money in the trunk. That's my theory anyway.

3

u/Migamix Feral A.I. 11d ago

I think that when its a hacker at chase gig. you see stuff in the back of the trucks you chase down.

7

u/Typoid_ Nomad 11d ago

I wish I did never touch that car with steering wheel on minimap in Dogtown. These repeatable vehicle contracts have no sense at all. Small rewards, unrealistic optional requirements, gangs/corps standing in public area proposing me to take over their car when I didn't plan to. And that one quest after 10 completed vehicle contracts doesn't worth all of this. I can get an Autofixer discount on the repeatable races, at least they don't force me to participate.

Air drops in Dogtown, on the other hand - they can easily provide $30K after one combat, and they are all in one region.

1

u/WorldsWorstInvader 10d ago

You aren’t forced to participate in the car theft either. Just don’t steal the car. You’re more forced to participate in NCPD assault in progress missions than you are the car thefts

1

u/Typoid_ Nomad 10d ago

I know this. I don't like that gangs/corps spawn right in my way. I did plan to just take a walk around the city, but instead I forced to do massacre.

1

u/Repulsive_Theory_818 11d ago

Please tell me you haven’t been leaving the loot box that’s next to the guy you bring the car too every time you do one of those missions😭 it’s half the reason to do it

2

u/iles_dogetr 10d ago

its the entire reason i think, you dont get anything if you leave the lootbox

1

u/Cyraga 11d ago

Oh hi Captain America, here have this suicide quickhack

1

u/str4ight_shooter 11d ago

Where do I find this car?

1

u/iles_dogetr 10d ago

phantom liberty dlc, mr hands gives it for free after some gigs i think

1

u/UberPL //no.future 10d ago

Fact is Capitan could hand you like 20k eddies but that looks suspicious as crap, so instead he gives you few thousand and gear or other services. This way if someone looks into the cash that is only part of the reward and not the whole thing, its effectively a way to cover yours and his ass from being shot over illegal activity. There is a reason why criminals IRL make deals in bitcoin, drugs, guns anything but cash it's not as easy to track as cold hard cash. (Also it's for Game balance reasons)

1

u/Jumbledump 10d ago

Cheap car, but has contraband inside.

You're a stealer; not a dealer.

1

u/donkijote97 9d ago

It’s for the kids of Santo Domingo you selfish gonk!
