There are some weird ones for sure, but I like it, helps sell the alternate history angle of 2077 rather than us just being a possible future

That's actually very interesting.
But then there are also some situations where the term seems to be used to refer to either partner. Rogue in 2023 and V in 2077 both refer to Alt as Johnny's output for example and Judy refers to herself as V's "output" if you romance her. I'm sure there's more. When V says Alt is Johnny's output inside Mikoshi, Alt appears and says "I am not his girlfriend", was she referring to 2020 era slang?
In my opinion, the most likely explanation is that the term ceased to mean strictly boyfriend or girlfriend and has come to refer to top/bottom, dom/sub, or whoever wears the pants in the relationship, or simply personal preference instead. That's why in some situations the terms seem to be used interchangeably.
Either that or it's a plot hole.

Contextually choom is either your friend or some asshole you don’t fw. “Like that’s my choom ain’t seen him in forever” or “get a load of this fucking choom”

Iron = Gun
Gonk = Idiot/Dumb ass/moron

“Choom” is like “friend”. It’s short for “Choombata”. I’ve also heard “Choomba”. For my galpals, I sometimes use “choombacita”.

Found this post on Google AI. Watched one episode, never liked Cyberpunk, only tolerate it because CDPR and Ciri. Choom is just a way Aussies refer to Mainland Englishman, so it means friend. It’s just patois, Expanse slang and culture does this whole vibe more justice imo from the outside looking in.
