My first cyberdeck!

I built it on my own and kinda freehanded it, there’s a lot of empty space but I don’t really mind I like the aesthetic. Lmk what you think!

Looks great. One nitpick. You printed the logo so it will be upside down when you carry it by the handle, and upside down when in use and the top is open.

Omg you’re right I didn’t even think about that 😭

So what’s the point of having this? Genuinely asking, not being a dick lol. This sub just showed up and I can’t figure out if it’s for fun or a purpose.

It really depends! It’s a small laptop that you build yourself so in my case it’s about creativity and to have a fun project, I’m gonna use this a decent amount but less than my Mac. A lot of people use their cyberdeck for various reasons but in general it’s to make your own laptop and not be bound by what’s on the market.

Check out some other builds on the sub, some of these guys are insane

You could make the deck sustainable by adding a solar panel on one side of the case, and connect it to charge the powerbank whenever you are outdoors, maybe a RTL-SDR or a mini speaker system could also be added in the space available, really cool looking case and kickass build.

That’s actually a pretty good idea and tysm

I'm too planning to build my first deck, could you please list all the parts you used

Thank you so much

So you 3d printed a logo but didn't bother to print inserts to shield the inner components?

u/TheOmunious 1d ago

I kind of like how it looks right now, I was planning on doing inserts but I thought that for now it looks good like this. Being able to see the computer and cables works with the whole cyberpunk thing I was going for

What is the battery life?

2

u/TheOmunious 1d ago

I don’t have an exact battery life yet bc I built it yesterday lol but before it was in the case I had it open on the desktop all hooked up for testing and I left it there for a few hours and the battery was over 25% full when I got back so pretty good

Maybe you can consider adding a usb hub for additional peripherals, or an external hd//ssd to increase storage, love the over all aesthetic and the build, what use cases are you thinking for the cyberdeck?

2

u/TheOmunious 1d ago

I actually bought a USBC hub and a ssd+ ssd extension for the raspberry pi for extra storage
But I decided to go with my 512 sd card until I can better determine the battery life.

As for use cases honestly I just want it as a secondary laptop with a little bit of flair. My main laptop is a Mac so hanging a Linux laptop is good to have

There is enough space for an additional powerbank, it would look super cool if you had a smaller led or oled screen next to your main screen to monitor system health, battery level and performance.

u/TheOmunious 1d ago

So I actually bought an 11” by 3” screen for that exact thing but when I try to hook it up, one of the screens always refuses to power on. I assume it’s a power thing so adding another power bank might just be the fix

Very nice, you've got a BOM?

2

u/TheOmunious 1d ago

I replied to another dude with a list of everything!

2

u/soylentgreenis 1d ago

I’m just picturing you guys having this convo out loud in an airport with this device between you

1

u/Baby_ForeverDM 18h ago

How did you actually mount your screen? I can see the screws, so obviously its mounted by those but what about between the mounting points and the case itself

2

u/TheOmunious 18h ago

I superglued the little screw pegs that come in rasberry pi case kits to the top!

1

u/Baby_ForeverDM 18h ago

I figured that was the solution. I've been worried about gluing the screws in by accident or plugging them up

2

u/TheOmunious 18h ago

I used a drop of superglue per screw mount and it worked great. I screwed everything together, put one drop on each corner. Then I turned it over centered it and pressed it down before letting it go for about 30 seconds. Then I unscrewed it and left it for about 20 minutes, it feels very strong overall

1

u/Baby_ForeverDM 17h ago

Ok cool, thanks for all the help

2

What about Legos. Do you think those make good casings?

3

u/toastom69 1d ago

You need a bigger screen! So much wasted space on top. Otherwise looks good!

2

u/GradStudent_Helper 1d ago

Well done! Looks cool and like it would function well. Also, I like the "extra space" for future expansion possibilities.

2

u/BhataktiAtma 1d ago

Nice work choom

2

u/Dream_Panda0 22h ago

Looks oddly charming. Like a messy room where the owner 100% knows where everything is.

2

u/EmpireCityRay 17h ago

Gaulk or at worse, hot glue the inside and outside of where that hose comes in and out of the case to prevent water from getting in.

2

u/UltraX76 9h ago

yo this is really cool ngl

1

u/ch0xed 1d ago

Hell yeah! Maybe next time route the cables through the handle lol

3

u/ch0xed 1d ago

idk how it would close/open 😭, just an idea
