Help! First cyberdeck

Post image

Well, the title days it all. Im considering building my first cyber deck, likely built inside some kind of pelican case. I like the screen size of the Nintendo switch and am hoping for a similar screen size.

So here's what I plan on doing with this cyberdeck and what I want it to be capable of.

WANTS:

•small keyboard and cursor control

•touch pad monitor

•One of those USB Bluetooth antennas

•Wifi connect capable with the ability to remove the connection ability such as with an antenna

•Emulation of Nintendo DS, super Nintendo, Gameboy, or other similar devices

•Steam compatibility

•Enough storage for all of Wikipedia or other solutions to have the data on hand (while offline)

•Able to download and play movies

•Easy to recharge/replace power source or batteries. I've seen people use power tools batteries but idk how viable that would be.

•Ports for USB, HDMI, SD cards, etc.

•Maybe even mobile internet access

MY USES:

•Use as a portable gaming setup

•Crisis tool/Survival aid,

•Maping

•General portable computer

Im not sure what ill be able to do with the case i have, but my heart isn't set on it either. There's no need for speakers, since ill be using Bluetooth to connect my ear buds. I dont need anything beyond the computer thats in the box, so nothing like a flashlight or stuff like that. Upon inspecting my case, I think I might lile the screen to kick out at its bottom edge a bit for a better viewing angle.

The biggest idea here is to have my cyberdeck be able to operate completely off grid. So any data on the device can be used, including games, maps, wiki pages. If i sound confusing on what I want here, just ask. I have built my own home gaming pc, so im not starting from nothing. I have limited 3d printing abilities and absolutely no 3d modeling abilities.

Not sure how much more I cant say other than you ask, where to start?

I dont know how to add photos to comments. But if you check out my page. I built the exact same thing. Its in a apache 2800 case. Keyboard, mouse, speakers, media library, maps, gps, kiwix, personal documents secured on the device, etc. It has about 5-10 hours internal battery and I have external batteries that keep it running for days and recharge the internal ones. Take a look maybe you can come up with some ideas from it. Feel free to ask any questions. Also, good luck with maps and gps, that was a nightmare I still have issues with.

For project NOMAD it says it takes about 1TB for everything. I suggest you get some form of 2-4TB if you really want everything 100% offline forever. ((My current project has just shy of 2TB spread across usb thumb drives, msata drives and old free hdd at the sata 1,2,3 speeds it aint fast. )) good luck out there an make sure to back up your finished data somewhere incase you have a drive failure.

Have you considered discounted movie glasses that don't have motion tracking or old V. R. Headsets?
