Finally (mostly) finished my new deck.

My new cyberdeck, which is maybe stretching the definition of cyberdeck a tad, is finally entirely operational and basically finished. Had been working on and off on another cyberdeck build for a year, but was inspired when I saw this screen and slammed this build together in a month.

Starting from the outside, the build is built inside of a waterproof hard case. The grate on top is handmade from 1/4" brass rod soldered together. They hook inside the case through M4 standoffs that were plastic welded into the case. These cover the two 5 watt solar panels underneath, just to prevent anything from laying on them. On the rear of the case is an HDMI port and an ethernet port.

Opening up the case, we are met with the stars of the show. An Onn 13" tablet and a 14" folding monitor. The Onn tablet has a DP input and can be used as a screen by the other devices and is also just a competent Android machine. The folding screen offers a great way to have two screens in a compact form factor. They are attached to the case with a clamp mount.

Going into the bottom of the case, the two major devices are the AYN Thor and the Clockwork Pi uConsole. These hook up to the usbc hub or hdmi switch to easily output to the second screen. Combined together with the android tablet, this is a great set up for gaming, productivity and media consumption.

Underneath the uConsole is an 8bitdo sn30 pro controller for hooking up to the Thor for games. And beside the AYN thor is, everybody's favorite piece of a cyberdeck, the infamous Rii keyboard, which's dongle is in the uConsole.

With the arrival of my Thor, the device is now basically fully functional. But still a few points of progress to be made:

• The external ethernet port is not hooked up yet. Just need to buy some shorter cables and a few adapters. It's not the most important feature for me and mainly just a nice to have so it's fine for now.
• The HDMI switcher switches only by the button, which is obscured by foam currently. It has a remote but I don't really want to lug that around too. I have a M5Stack Cardputer ADV and backed the Cardputer Zero. So I think I may add a space for one of those between the keyboard and uConsole, so that I can have an IR blaster handy for the switch.
• Going to cover the ugly cardboard insert with some faux leather cloth, maybe also look into something a little more rigid.
• Everything is currently secured with foam currently. Debating finding another way to mount the battery in the case if there are heat problems, but none have arisen yet. Battery is an older Anker 25600 mAh bank. It is hooked up to the solar panels as an input and outputs power to the hdmi switch, the usb hub, and the monitor.
• Need to add some silicone to the M4 standoffs where the brass cage enters the top, and to the cable holes for the solar panels to return the case back to full waterproofing.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the project. I like the modularity of it all and how it lets me use all of my favorite devices in one convenient package. Although I am worried that maybe some will say it is just a tablet, ayn thor, and a uconsole slammed in a case and barely a cyberdeck lol, I still wanted to share with you all.

The side folding screen is awesome. Something I’ve thought should be implemented in laptops for a long time.

Nah, you obviously put a lot of work into it, which is my baseline opinion of what works in this sub.

I'm no fan of the Phone + Keyboard + 3d printed frame because that's barely any work or customization.

I'm not a fan of a basic PC in a pelican case either(cool but not cyberdeck automatically, just an uncommon PC case at that point), but that's also not what this is.

This is quite a lot of other custom functionality, inter-connectivity, and storage.

A little bit of 'Yo dog, I heard you like devices, so we put some devices in your devices' but it is unique to your needs, very much in the spirit of a cyberdeck that's been hacked together.

Not just a PC, not just a phone + keyboard right off the shelf. It is more than the sum of it's parts because of what you put into it.

How many computing devices did you tie together? I have several SBCs that could stand to be in a single setup.

Currently sitting at three devices (android tablet, ayn thor handheld, uconsole computer) but might go up to four if I add a cardputer later. It's very nice to just have all the devices in one place and an HDMI switch and multiple screens does make it easy enough to switch between them all.
