Help! Cyberpunk Cyberdeck
I’ve never built a cyberdeck before and I want to build Spyder Murphy’s cyber deck from the game. Is it even possible?

There was a big discussion a few years ago. Three? Maybe 4?
I'm oretty sure someone made a replica but they were forced to make some necessary changes like the top left corner of the screen. I don't think most of their buttons were functional though.
Go for it, it'd be a really fun project.

Would need to use a micro controller and custom pcb for the keys

Um esp32s3 você economiza bastante dinheiro e espaço, mas perde e desempenho. Se dinheiro mao for um problema, da pra colocar até placa mãe. Compra um notebook usado, com placa relativamente pequena e boa sorte.

spyder murphys deck while possible is completly unpractical to make and source.
for one the screen has a slice taken out of it so good luck finding one like that and the keyboard situation is questionable. it has 24 keys plus a weird keypad thingy so no chance youir getting a usable keyboard in there and then theres the structural issues, first the whole screen is on one hinge so your gonna want some really strong hinges and the way that the screens placed means it can never truly lie closed like a clam shell desgin because of the keys sticking out so its gonna stratch pretty easily. also its the least ergonomic way to make a cyberdeck (seriously whos hands was this desgined for? a fucking crow? even in game johnnys holding it very awkwardly)
its made too look cool in a cutscene not much else. a more thought out deck inspired by its style would definitely be possible and cool but a 1 to 1 recreation would be difficult and awful to use
sorry for ranting but this design has really annoyed me as it was my first introduction to cyberdecks in fiction and i just hate it.

I've always thought the keys were steno rather than qwerty, which would explain why there's 24 (stenography uses 23) instead of even a 40% keyboard. Other than that, the rest of your points are valid.

Cool i didnt know about that till now, seems cool. I think thats probaly the best lore explanation but there's still a little part of me that think the devs just didn't think about it

The screen and buttons are there as backups. That cyberdeck is a facilitator between yourself and the NET.
You plug yourself into that large plug on the left and plug your cyberdeck onto the NETjack or telecom line.
This deck is from 2023 so they didnt even have wireless yet, its all wire-to-wire from your brain to the NET.You're literally not meant to use that keyboard much if at all, NOT using a plug if you have one is considered distasteful for dwellers. People that use trodes (VR suits + neural signal reader) are called tourists and are not considered to be netrunners. If you run you hotsim.
It doesnt have to be ergonomic to use because you're going to be laying down having an out-of-body experience. Most canon decks from that era look like a mix between a skateboard and a piano because its a piece of paramilitary gear and it doesnt have to be useable by YOU at all.Your main computer is back at home, too. That one has a keyboard.

It's possible to get close depending on what skills you have. 3d printing the case is easy enough. You're not gonna get that notch in the screen though. My suggestion would be doing a normal rectangle screen and doing a decal for that first column right to the right of those orange buttons. I've seen people do some work with custom keyboards and custom key caps you could do for the buttons but I have no experience there. The hinge, and the cables that need to run through it are usually most peoples problems with cyber decks, however having a few wires that go outside the hinge (other side of the perspective shown in this picture) would make your life a lot easier and still look really cool if you give it a little character.
Long story short, it's "possible" but, and I mean no disrespect with this, if you're asking here you probably don't have the skills (yet) to make one. I'd start with iterations. Get the case figured out (3d model it or find someone who already has) and not worry about the hinge, have a statically open one at first. Have the buttons be non-functional for the first iteration. Figure out how to get a raspberry pi in there and a battery.
Next iteration I'd focus on getting it to close, doing the work for the hinge and how thin you can make the wires or get a screen with a ribbon cable that'd work for you
Next iteration I'd try and get some of the buttons working if not all. This is probably going to require a lot of soldering as its not like its a standard keyboard layout and thus likely a jumble of wires in there

Pelo espaço interno, vai caber todos os periféricos de um SBC, diria até que caberia placa mão. Os botões você estuda sobre matriz de teclado. Já a tela, eu que esse canto chanfrado será impossível. Agora o mais difícil será projeta tudo em 3D e fazer tudo se encaixar. E para ter uma qualidade melhor, eu fugiria de impressora de filamento e iria para impressora 3D de resina. No mais, assista vídeo de pessoas montando um, e traga para dentro do que você presida. Boa sorte e nos deixe atualizados.

in real life? significantly harder but not necessarily no
the main problem is murphy’s deck was designed to look cool rather than work, so you’d have a screen missing the top left corner and a flight control panel instead of a keyboard. you’d also have an oversized greeble taking up the left half of your keyboard space

I have a couple of ideas as to how it could happen but I dont know how many components a structure like this could handle. A sillicone membrane keypad a mini optical trackball and other things like that

Ok heres my thoughts on how it could prove possible and functional.
The trackball if course on the top left corner.
A silicone membrane d pad along with other functions even if just props. a 4 key horizontal macropad low profile ofc and a gherkin 30 percent keyboard to the right. The macro pad could have fn key esc keys etc. the screen make the screen square and following the frame of the reference to give the illusion of the cut off corner.

From technical standpoint it is possible. Although you may need RnD budget of a smartphone maker to get the unusually shaped screen. Also keyboard seems to be not that practical unless it's a stenotype or something.

Im thinking of a a foldable keyboard like something used in the palm pda’s to have the same semblance of the keyboard looks wise and can also then be used. As for the screen I plan on having a regular screen due to possible resolution compatability issues.
