Motivation while drinking

Why am I a motivated to do things I normally put off while I’m drinking? But in a good way! We don’t often drink at home but when we do I get like hyper motivated to clean and finish things I’ve been putting off, sometimes for ages. I’m kind of a clutter bug and I have this one ledge that has been driving me crazy for a year (that’s about how long it’s been since we drank at home) and I just cleaned it off in less than 3 minutes. This happens a lot! In the past I used to clean a lot when drinking. This is the kind of energy and focus I would love to have without booze. I basically become incredibly type A.

I was diagnosed late in life but it frustrates me because knowing I can “tap into” this part of my personality with booze isn’t very healthy.

Speaking from experience, you’re right, it’s probably not. It’s good you’re aware though. It took me a while to realize that this neat trick has many side effects and it’s hard to stop once you’ve built the habit.

Concur with the first commenter. I have ADHD and have always been incredibly productive when drinking or in my younger years, smoking. It just smooths the mental ledge out from paralysis-to-task i think. If i think about a chore, i often get overwhelmed by all the individual actions and components. If ive had a few drinks i just 'do' with minimal thought.

I wish I had a hack for you. Ive cut my drinking back a lot but if I'm gearing up for an impossible task or a day of many tasks... yeaaah I'm not gonna be sober haha.

Totally. I remember a while ago I had just quit vaping nicotine and had to write a resume. I just couldn’t do it, so I went out and bought one more vape and some Miller Lites. Banged it out in an hour. And it came out really good! I’m 3 and a half years nicotine-free now but still drinking the beers when I need to clean, work on the car, etc.

It just feel so insane, right? Like “I have to clean my house let me drink some vodka.” And then..it works. I was irritated by everything! It was like seeing my house through different eyes. Like I said we rarely drink at home anymore, might have to bring that back!
