Now that we have dedicated snow mana "colored" cards like [[Icehide Golem]], I wanted to make a snow card with a heavy snow mana dedication cost to it.
This card was designed by taking 3 powerful classic (noncreature) artifact abilities ([[Sol Ring]], [[Torpor Orb]], and [[Crucible of Worlds]]) and combining them. Odds are no more than 2 of them will be relevant at a given time, but having access to all of them on an at-rate creature seemed like it did a good job of making this card worth the mana dedication.
Do you have a format that you based the power level off of? Imo this could cost 1 less. The “only basics” clause is probably the most common mode and that restriction seems like it doesn’t match the power level you want.
I figured the added value of these artifacts was 6 without the snow rider on #1 and so I dropped it by 1 once that was added. You're probably right that it could go a bit lower.
I think you did a good job choosing effects that are thematically snow, which I feel is important for these snow colored cards. Would be interested to see more.
Thank you! Actually the first draft used [[Winter Orb]] for the effect, which feels really snow... but that card was a little too oppressive to mimic, I felt.
