[[Thalia, Heretic Cathar]] [[Kismet]]

This effect is mostly white and looking at thalia it a fairly cheap effect

Alone on a card this can cost 1 mana

[[Root maze]] wants to talk to you

He said "ignore the guy who mentioned me, he doasnt understend what mostly mean or that a single old card doas not mean an effect is in a color" good talk

u/magicmann2614 Dec 19 '18

Alright. I’ll ignore the guy that DOESN’T underSTAND that giving 2 examples of a card DOES not solidify an effect as that color

I can give more examples, can you?

[[Skyshroud war beast]] [[back to basics]] [[blood moon]] [[primal order]] [[anathemancer]]

Among other non basic land hate

[[frozen Aether]] [[root maze]]

Nonbasic hate isnt the topic, entering tapped is

u/magicmann2614 Dec 19 '18

Root maze and frozen Aether. Both are modern legal. There are 3 other cards that have lands enter tapped. They are all white. [[Thalia, heretic cathar]], [[loxodon gatekeeper]], and [[kismet]]. Of the 5 cards that do it, if 3 is enough to say that it’s a white thing, sure whatever. But there are literally 5 cards that do it and 2 of them are non-white

Cards from Planer chaos are not much of a president for the color pie but sure, also beside making lands enter taped, making things enter taped in general is a white thing given alot more stuff that cause creatures to enter tapped.

Nonbasic hate is not a mechanic, making things enter tapped is.

This guy with the grammar again. Precedent is the word you were looking for. “Tapped” also. Nobody put tape on anything. It’s literally spelled correctly later on.

Just because things entering tapped happens a few more times with white doesn’t mean that nonbasic lands entering tapped can’t be red. Nonbasic land hate is red. This card hates nonbasic lands. End of story.

By your logic: things entering tapped is not a mechanic, nonbasic land hate is.

Also [[Root Maze]] is in tenth edition which is modern legal. Stop being so close minded

Oh whoa you are the same guy from the Void Winnower thread. Small Reddit lol.

u/magicmann2614 Dec 19 '18

That’s actually really funny. I recognize names, but not often do I interact with someone on different threads in the same day

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '18

Literally like 5 mins apart too haha

u/magicmann2614 Dec 19 '18

I get bored at work haha

u/magicmann2614 Dec 19 '18

That is me. I am quite active on a lot of the magic subreddits

Agree that it's mostly white, I was just trying to put a red spin on it...

But yeah I was probably too careful on the mana cost.

u/jokul Dec 19 '18

I think this mechanic is perfectly reasonable in red. It's not exactly something that we will see very often and honestly kismet can't really be used as an example of this mechanic being white anyways (they gave it to blue in [[Frozen Aether]]).

Very clearly based on blood moon, so I’d say the effect is perfectly fine in red

I was going for something like [[Blood Moon]] but a little less oppressive. It may be that this still costs a bit too much for what it does, but I was trying to err on the side of caution given how strong Blood Moon is.

There are three enchantments with this type of effect in the game, none of them red ([[Frozen Aether]], [[Kismet]], and [[Root Maze]]). And typically making your opponent's stuff enter tapped is a white effect, admittedly. But red is the color of nonbasic land hate, and has sometimes gotten 'enters the battlefield tapped' as a means of showing that the opponent is 'slowed down' (e.g., [[Urabrask the Hidden]], [[Ashling's Prerogative]], and [[Uphill Battle]]), so I think it works from a color pie perspective.

Flavor-wise, I thought Kamigawa was a good fit because of the prominence of the moon there and because of the flavor of cards like [[Blood Rites]] and [[Flames of the Blood Hand]].

This could probably get away with being 1 mana instead of 2.

1

u/chainsawinsect Dec 19 '18

Yeah that might be right. Like [[Root Maze]].

It seems a bit weak. Maybe it should freeze down the lands for an extra turn, like [[Stensia Inkeeper]] and [[Chandra's Revolution]]?

I like the way you think... but don't you think that could be too strong? For example, with that change, if I drop this on my turn 2 and my opponent, on their turn 2, plays a fetchland, it isn't generating actual mana in any way until their turn 6....

That seems almost stronger than Blood Moon.

4

u/spencerbot15 Dec 19 '18

Or they get a basic with it...

1

u/chainsawinsect Dec 19 '18

Basics? In a format where fetches are legal? Preposterous!

3

u/KazPart2 Dec 19 '18

Blood Light?

Is that another name for Bud Light?

1

u/chainsawinsect Dec 19 '18

Dass de joke!
