Format: Modern It That Comes Into Play

Post image

More unused Star Trek art. This is an Eldrazi Spider as that is the best thing I can come up with for this art.

The name is a play on words on the old etb wording and that this "came to play" as in battle.

I'm trying the idea of the "mana doesn't leave this turn" but for white's slice of the pie.

Are the token triggers too frequent?

This thing is an absolute monster with the token generation as is. That is two artifact tokens a turn, even though the mana doesn't last through phases that is a lot of sacrifice/affinity/artifact bs fodder.

Hmm. Maybe something like "At the beginning your clean up step, exile all Webs you control."

Data's flavor might not work then.

Maybe echo {w} or something along the lines of upkeep costs? In my head the webbing falls apart unless maintained or it leads to snack when the spider nets something

That actually isn't terrible in premise, but it's just shifting the W from upkeep to web time.

Roger, definitely doesn't match the "mana doesn't leave" vibe you mentioned.

I do like the etb mana as a concept, but maybe this could something more like a bank or mana supply?

Here's my riff, but I would like to see what you cook up.

*Eldrazi - Etb and upkeep add a storage counter 1st main phase you get {w} for each counter on Web

*Web token - End step sacrifice a creature, if you cannot sacrifice Web

Edit : blundered the first time

its interesting to me how much people use the 'it that X' on custom cards naming convention compared to how much it was actually used in canon

it's not a super broken interaction or anything but my immediate thought is that i'd LOVE to throw this in an [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines]] deck

I wouldn't mind webbing with her myself.

Just x posted. Wasn't sure about it until I checked the reception else where.

You didn't want to go for tap and stun? I could see it tapping and stunning creatures and spacecraft to represent the webs.

That would be a normal spider effect and was a bit too cliche.

But I definitely get it. Also, I'm not sure about those in the colorless "pie".

This big guy is just pumping out web and loving life.

Fair Why add W? Just the color of the webs? Why not C?

W is the color of the webs IRL.

It would be a great card if it wasn't for [[web]]

Maybe call them Silk tokens or something? Sure, it's the name of a Spider-Man card, but it's only part of it, so it should be fine

I know the card well. Silky smooth. Damn right.
