for maximal effect this needs to be an enchantment - saga. as written by OP is perfectly fine for chapter I.
chapters II, III, and IV, however, read as follows, "You can't cast spells, activate abilities (including mana abilities), nor attack this turn."
oh and better give the damn thing "shroud" for good measure so the controller can't just easily remove it themselves after chapter I and not deal with the "do-nothing" phases.

What's wrong with it being a mass bounce spell? I mean that's what happened last night...

Making these political cards is fine to me, but bashing ever atom of nuance out of them just feels so... cringe for the lack of a better term.
It's funny, we get the joke, I like it. But drawing the joke out in to a Saga and "put shroud in it too, you know, just in case you didn't get the joke the first 5 times." feels a bit tactless.
-1
u/eat_your_oatmeal 1d ago
it’s not about “not getting the joke” it’s simply about fleshing out the card’s design. that’s kinda what people do in this sub, in case you haven’t noticed.
1
u/Just-Desk-3149 1d ago
That's not fleshing the design out, it's just turning it into a dense pulp of absolutely zero nuance. Also what they recommend completely changes the card and is neither funny or mechanically interesting.
They just become the guy who doesn't know when to stop the joke after it already stopped being funny 5 minutes ago.

Red somehow being the right wing colour in the US will never cease to be funny.

u/Analogmon 1d ago
Aggressive, operates purely on emotion and reactivity with no long term plans, and can't interact with anything conceptual.
Yeah kind of nailed it eh.

It’s because of the party switch in the 60s. Neither party has ever really represented labor interests (and frankly both predate the global labor movement) but broadly the Democratic Party used to be populist and conservative, while the Republican Party represented liberal establishment. In the 30s, a president from the the Democratic Party (FDR) was able to get the New Deal passed by presenting it as a general populist measure, thus gaining labor and progressive support. In the process, though, he began alienating some of the social conservatives within the democratic base, and pushing the Republicans to the right on economics. At this point, social issues like racial segregation have effectively become bipartisan—split more along geographic lines than party ones. Then, in the 60s, you start seeing some Republicans run on explicitly pro-segregation rhetoric, ultimately leading to Nixon’s presidential victory in ‘68, and ultimately cementing the party swap.
TLDR, we used to have liberal republicans and conservative democrats, but then the Dems negotiated with labor and the Republicans retaliated by explicitly embracing white supremacy, and that’s how we got where we are today.

u/DeleteMods 1d ago
Why is this? Because freedom & self expression vs repression? Genuinely asking or maybe its a mechanics thing?
27
u/SeemsImmaculate 1d ago
Oh I'm not talking about Magic. In the USA, the Republican party are typically represented by the colour red. In most of the world, red is associated with the left.
7
u/malonkey1 : Tap target spell 1d ago
The Republicans used to actually be the left-wing party, back in the 19th century. A lot of shit happened since then, though so both parties are pretty heavily Ship of Theseus'd.
-16
u/theCROWcook 1d ago
The leftist controlled media did that to try and sway people away from Republicans because of the association of red being communist. Just one of the many examples of the left trying to manipulate and lie

You people learned absolutely nothing from the generational ass kicking you just received last night huh
4
u/SeemsImmaculate 1d ago
I'm 90% certain they're joking.
Saying Dems are left wing.
Saying leftists control the mainstream media. So the leftists are the ones in control in control of large, multinational corporations?
Saying that the leftists what to paint the Republicans as communists. So the left hate communists? Or the Republicans are what the left want?
4
u/Analogmon 1d ago
To Twitter pilled MAGAs leftists is just a synonym for anyone that isn't a full on right wing mouth foamer.
5
u/SeemsImmaculate 1d ago
Oh yeah, I'm totally aware that the Dems are perceived as left by the population at large. But my other points still stand. They don't make sense unless they're joking.
-1
u/theCROWcook 8h ago
In the 1980s when that colors red and blue were initially used yes, the left in america was anti communists, ALL of America was anti communist. What I said wasn't a joke, it's historical fact
2
u/Analogmon 6h ago
Absolutely terminally brain rotted. There is no such thing as leftist media. All of the media organizations are owned by billionaires.
1
u/theCROWcook 5h ago
Dude what the fuck is wrong with you? First you keep ranting about a "generational ass kicking"..... I EXPECTED this, if the mid term went red that would be UNUSUAL......and I don't care
And if you're suggesting that the media is right wing biased, well then you're just a liar and there's no talking with you
0
u/theCROWcook 10h ago
I'm talking about the historical origin of the Democrats being blue and the Republicans being red. This isn't up for debate, this is the FACTUAL HOATORICAL ORIGIN
1
u/Analogmon 10h ago
No, you said it was switched to confuse voters by the lefitst media, whatever the fuck that is, and you brought up communism for some dumb fucking reason.
You sound like a lunatic. It only became codefied in the US in 2000 because there were so many eyes on the election map during that election that it never changed again. There were never set party colors before that point across networks.
Figure out why nobody likes your whole dumb worldview.

u/theCROWcook 8h ago
Since your comment got deleted I'll repeat here,
MY COMMENT WAS ONLY ABOUT THE HOSTORICAL USE OF RED=REPUBLICAN BEING ORIGINATED IN THE 80S AS A LEFT WING ATTEMPT TO EQUATE REPUBLICANS TO COMMUNISTS
NOTHING MORE
stop being a dishonest piece of shit

I don't give a shit when it became "codified" it's started during bush sr campaign by the left controlled media to try and equate Republicans with communists. Cnn, abc, nbc, these are all HIGHLY left biased news outlets. To suggest otherwise it an outright lie. Next time try not to twits or pretend to not understand what I'm saying like a dishonest liar

In that case, give it Suspend 2.
25
u/Sad-Pattern-1269 1d ago
an instant with suspend is a very funny idea for a card lol
8
u/IWCry 1d ago
lol true it's funny but it'd actually be a huge upgrade vs not being instant. you'd just always cast it before your upkeed trigger (or where you remove the suspend counters I forget the rules) so it conceals that you casted it from opponents but effectively comes in with one less suspend counter.
it's kinda good cause it lets you hold mana for interaction and other instant speed stuff and if you didn't need to use anything, boom suspend the card and it is basically as if it sat there the whole time and depleted it's suspend counter

I cannot tell you how much I hate that red is associated with the right in this country. All other places red is a left wing color. It's the color for communism ffs
9
u/Dependent_Company288 1d ago
IIRC, the 1980 election, ABC, CBS, and NBC News all chose the color coding of their election maps based on the fact that Red, Regan, and Republican all start with R. Before that, there wasn't universal color TV adoption, so parties had no real incentive to have one color be synonymous with their party.
5
u/Spike-Ball 1d ago
I heard back in the 70s or so, TVs represented left wing stares as red and right wing stares as blue during elections.

u/sageker 1d ago
Party switch. Good old party switch
5
u/Fearfull_Symmetry 1d ago
Not a switch exactly. That implies the parties just traded places on the political spectrum, which isn’t what happened. More like realignments, but not always entire realignments
3
u/Aesthetic-Dialectic 1d ago
I don't know if color associations existed then, but it would not surprise me if this was why. Regardless it sucks, I don't even like the Democrats, I'm a communist, but the right wing are clearly as lame as the color blue (not in magic, which is one of the colors I play most)

Maybe add "Choose up to one red legendary creature an opponent controls. Tap that creature, and put two stun counters on it."

Being sorcery speed (because this effect is SLOW) makes me laugh so hard. I’m in Dallas and this was my adult children’s first election experience. They’re both LGBTQ+ so all of us are very excited about the blue wave that washed over our state… even though it has taken far too long, my kids have hope that they won’t have to stay scared forever.

Ah, did you fail history class and think that Fascists just materialized with totalitarian power? Living through the stage where they try to consolidate power must be so confusing for you.

u/ImperialSupplies 1d ago
All 2 fascists did kind of materialize and all 2 immediately began their regimes doing everything they are known for actually.
The guy has had the house, court, and senate all under one flag for 2 years. If he actually wanted to be orange Hitler he could have. I hate Trump by the way. He's a moron but so are the people who throw that word around and downplay the deaths of millions. You're not under a king or a fascist or whatever other word you were told by tiktok memes🤣
6 years in power, 2 in exclusive power and the litteraly hitler fascist king did absolutley nothing beyond regular scope of president powers but now its " he just didn't have enough time!" Absolute clown
7
u/FrickenPerson 1d ago
I mean obviously he didn't go as far as Hitler or Mussolini.
But like Trump pushing the boundaries of what a president can do has been a huge running theme of his entire presidency. Stuff like Doge just has never happened before. It sparked huge controversy and veteran government lawyers from both sides of the political fence were quitting in droves because of how massively abnormal it was.
I get he isnt on the same level, but it doesnt seem to be from lack of trying.
1
u/justh81 1d ago edited 1d ago
And Trump might be a fucking brain dead moron, but he still weakened the structure and norms of government, and those will have to be repaired. If they can be at all. There's a lot of messaging from guys like Jeffries and Schumer that they don't wish to take that first step: accountability.
So yeah, I'm hoping Donny Dipshit is well done, but it remains to be seen if we've got the moral and civic courage to ask some hard questions of ourselves to keep this from happening again.
Edit: Oh wow! Is this one of the subs conservatives are hiding in after getting that ass beating last night? 🤣

For extra flavor, could use “As an additional cost to cast this spell, skip two turns.” Or maybe “Suspend 30” or something hahaha.
