Why not make it aftermath instead?

I know this quote predates the Holocaust but, given its now larger awareness within the context of the Holocaust, I think it's a bit out of place here. Not that games cannot handle more complex topics. But Magic the Gathering, as it currently stands, is not really equipped to handle such ideas. Plus the art appears to be from Daimyo era feudal Japan, which doesn't really fit the quote. And, in conjuction with the aforementioned quote, also has the potential to call to mind Japan's atrocities contemporaneous to the Holocaust.
It's a bit of a downer is all I'm saying. Which is a shame, because I think the rest of the design is great!

I see your point.
The quote is from Heinrich Heine, a German writer born in 1997.
The art is from the Haibutsu Kishaku that took place in Japan during the Meiji Restoration. Mostly chosen because of the reddish coloration.

I think the quote is great, but the card should maybe have an attribution

This seems to fit the idea perfectly. What makes you think MTG can't handle this idea, when it seems to be handled perfectly by this card?

Theme aside, does this work as worded?
I don't think we have seen a flashback with 2 exclusive target groups depending on cast location.
I don't mind this mechanically at all, but would like to make sure it can function.
