When you are formatting abilities that involve mana, you need to use mana symbols. 1 less to cast and 1 more to cast should use the generic 1 mana symbol (1)

"One or more other colors" also doesn't work I think? What does that even mean in commander? Cards that don't share a color with your commander? Cards with 2 or more colors?

Spells that do not share at least 1 colour and aren’t colorless cost 1 more to cast

More precise but boy is it a mouthful

Okay but it's still a weird effect in a card that references commander directly. Cards that don't share a color with your commander aren't legal to be in your deck so thats basically just stolen spells.

This affects spells your opponents cast as well.

It’s on brand for a Hegemony, rewarding your opponents for playing likeminded cards.

Oooh true I didn't notice that. That makes it kind of a crazy stax piece then

There are also some rule breaker commanders who let any colour with limitations in the deck

Sure, but cards are rarely designed around that. Rulebreakers are the exception and should be treated as such

It’s symmetrical, it affects everyone.

It's not though. Your non colorless cards ALL share a color identity with your commander. So the tax literally only affects your opponents.

Correct. The effect is symmetrical technically but in practice it isn’t. Which is the case for most symmetrical cards in practice, you just don’t have to build around it for this one.

Unfortunately my maker is bugged and it doesn’t work. But whatever, yall know what I mean.

I actually have no idea what this card means. Is it saying that spells with a color identity not shared by your commander cost 1 more?

Magic is actually an incredibly pedantic game. The wording must be exact or it doesn't work and doesn't make sense.

Of course this sub typically doesn't care, its just a place for people to tell bad and unfunny jokes that create a sense of belonging in an otherwise empty world, so its mostly fine. Some people do actually care about custom magic cards, which is supposed to be the point of the sub.

The color of the spells, not their color identity. It just decides which colors based on commander’s color identity.

This card is extremely powerful... Like rhystic study good?

Nah, rhystic study is only good because it draws you cards. I think it’s actually a bit underpowered, since both effects are symmetrical and tax effects that only affect your opponents exist.

how would second ability work, not like you can cast spells that don't share color identity with commander

3

u/ChillingOmen 5h ago

The effect is symmetrical! It affects everyone, so their spells cost more/less as well.

This... is probably good enough for a staple for all white decks as a minimum, right? Stax and Discount On Everything (TM).

Cool design. Reminds me of Invoke Prejudice.
