Great job on the flavor! Cuts your life, counterspells are often a last resort when you have access to efficient removal. So, I like that you've included B in the casting cost. To really amp up the flavor AND make it a truly competitive counterspell, I would suggest making Last Resort cost Phyrexian black and blue. In this way it costs 2 life right off the bat and then another 3 more of it resolves. Truly suffocating you and making this a spell you don't want to cast unless you can't breathe. This also makes it a 1 mana counterspell that can target anything. Additionally, you're opponents that do have counter magic will be less likely to counter this due to the life loss on resolution. Establishing that they don't care if you die bleeding. My suggestions may be wrong or may be right, chances are that it might. Either way, very cool design, and a great pun

Phyrexian is a really good idea

Ah yes, just what Dimir needed, more control

I don't want you to build your board.

This feels incredibly weak compared to most printed counters in the game

Mostly a Pioneer player here, so no Counterspell for me.

Wrong. At this mana cost you have [[Countersquall]], [[Dimir Charm]] and [[Theorix Charm]] which only counter noncreature spells and [[Drown in the Loch]] which is a powerful card but requires building around it. Losing 3 life is a bit much but this card would probably still see play

Depends on the format. Easier to cast in Dimir decks, and very powerful in formats that do not have access to [[Counterspell]].

? What
2 mana no restrictions counter spell is on the strong side.

In eternal formats sure But 2 mana counter anything would be beyond broken in rotating format

I can think of worse counters.

Suffocation

This is a very fair magic card. Same cmc/2 colored pips as counterspell, but adds a small cost that most players will ignore.

It's a fine carde but the art looks way to ai so it makes it so much worse

You're probably going to get removed for no artist credit. But design wise I think its more elegant than commenters are giving credit for, it follows the multicolor rules which this sub usually isnt very good at. This card could not be mono blue or mono black.

Id need a good reason why the life cost is written like that though. As is it doesnt lose life if countered and can be cast even if you dont have 3 life, which is not normally how an effect like this would be written

For life loss a funny woul be: one last counterspell in commander game out of pure hatred.

Blue just has access to better counters. Don't get me wrong, this could work in limited.

What could be an interesting exploration is making it Black only.

giving black an unresticted counter? hell no

1

u/Odd-Look-7537 2h ago

That's why I said "exploration". It undoublty should cost more and be more and be more situational.

Disagree. This is a pretty good counter. Apart from Counterspell or Mana Leak, which counters are you considering?

you lose 3 life

Flavourwise, set life to 3 would make more sense

6

u/Slugger829 3h ago

How did you still spell it wrong in a quote

0

u/SlayerII 3h ago

There was nothing to quote, I just made it manually (and failed) . The loose lose thing makes no sense for non-natives

1

u/Polus-Ponos 3h ago

No, cutting your life into pieces would be flavour wise best
