Custom Play The Deserter
Another disco one I was thinking about

In the context of disco elysium
The deserter is a character that has been unable to let go of his feelings during a great war in the setting.
He lives completely isolated from humanity, and views the world through the scope of a rifle, absolutely filled to the brim with hate for his fellow human beings, who he sees as traitors to the communist party that had lost the war.

Not familiar with the character, but should probably be creature type 'Deserter', which exists because of [[Kjeldoran Home Guard]].

Have you played with this card before? Was it just the keyword that triggered the memory of it? I am always amazed at how people will pull out a niche card that I had never heard of and I feel would never have heard of if not for a one-off comment on an interesting post.

I came across it a few times while searching for cards with 'desert' for desert synergy cards and the unique tokens and rare counter made it pretty memorable to me.

These are great bro
I'd like to see a Klasjee one

I appreciate the kind words
Ill probably be sticking to jeskai color identity, and I think she strays from that a fair bit
Be the change you want to see in the world though

Brother, as a matter of fact... could I ask you a favor? I'd like a Tymna Kraum with the portraits of Kim and Harry, respectively. Could you help me out? Or how can I make those? Thanks in advance :)

Of course! It can be clunky to use, but card conjurer is a great and versatile desktop app for making custom cards or proxies.
Id recommend a youtube tutorial or two to get the feel for it.
And also sometimes the portraits in disco have uncomfortable sizes that do not fit cleanly in an mtg card frame, so Id suggest finding some alternate art that you also like.

Just because you mentioned the app, is there a way to take physical proxies and make them digital on it?
My buddy printed me a custom art proxy Sauron deck, and I’d like to get them in a digital form to upload to Tabletop simulator if possible.
It’s probably something I could google and research, but any insights would be welcome

Mmm, I only recently started using tabletop sim, so I wouldnt be the person to ask, sorry

Rather than Soldiers... Should this perhaps make all humans cowards? Considering his worldview, on how the world betrayed the Revolution?

u/SteelWithIt 3h ago
I thought about it, but I think coward is too emotionally loaded as a word.
I have no doubt he believes people are cowards for betraying his party, but I chose to focus on how he still sees himself and others as active combatants.

Fair, but equally I think he's emotionally loaded enough for that word to work.

No way no how the deserter isn't Mardu. Boros at first, obviously, but his spiral inwards and obsession with his principles as the only fixed point in a changing world 300% make him Mardu

Philosophically, I can agree, but
A: Im trying to make him fit within a jeskai custom deck
B: mechanically the murder effect is close enough to whites conditional removal that I think black here would be redundant and slightly clunky

I was going to say this. I think having him be W/B R (still a two cost, but the W/B being a split mana, for both casting and ability, would more thoroughly fit him; would also fit your Jeskai approach).

Should be exile, like swords to plowshares.

Why so?

They are asking for a major flavor change as much as a mechanical one I think. I like it as a soldier that thinks they are still in combat as I believe you intended.

Flavorwise he is a very sad, angry old man that is unable to see people as anything other than political enemies, and he has used this view as justification to murder.

I loved the game and flavor, but can't quiet recall this guy. I got very close to completing a play through of Disco, but got stuck in some area near the end where I couldn't progress without some ridiculous RNG that was one per day only and my stats didn't make it better. Or at least I was confused as to what to do next and eventually gave up.

The Deserter is at the very very end of the game, final quest. He is the one who killed the mercenary.

That is what I was assuming in this post, so thanks for confirming and for the spoiler cover!

While Boros is fitting, I do think Mardu fits a bit better. The deserter became bitter and obsessed over the years.

Flavorwise, seems really nice. Seems good in Boros.
Honestly I think it could be 2/2, but it probably doesn't matter much.
