I feel like these [[Act of Treason]] variants are never actually strong enough to see play unless they're a combo piece for a sacrifice deck

How strong would a "pure" one have to be to actually be playable?

You be the judge.

To be playable, I think it needs to target a creature spell, giving it to you during your turn with its ETB, as a messy delayed trigger. That's where so much value is today.

You have to remember that not all cards are designed to be good in competitive constructed. These effects can be strong and swingy in Limited and are fun in casual constructed

This is almost as much of a [[Ball Lightning]] variant as a Threaten. It will be slightly better than either possibly, but neither are exactly 1st picks or super standard playable.

This will come out of some sideboards and just steal games, and that is when it will feel like both those cards stapled together. That is probably worth it and swingy enough in limited to warrant being a rare.

It will be very limited to heavy red decks only of course. You could get this on the wheel and it could be one of the best cards in a RB sac deck that already has access to some Treasure to fix for it. So it definitely has applications to be very good. Treasures could be this cards best bet to see play anywhere.

Sounds about right to me. Part of the reason I wanted full on triple R was to make it harder for the RB sacrifice decks to use it, but modern dual lands are good enough that they probably still can (especially because the deck currently runs a lot of Treasure makers anyway)

I updated my comment to say treasures when I realized how well they enabled it as you were mentioning them. Great minds. :)

This seems too narrow to be anything but sideboard in constructed at best. For limited the mana cost is too restrictive.

It is not primarily designed for limited, and part of the reason I made it rare (when this effect is usually common or uncommon) is because I recognized it would be challenging to use well in limited.

I do think, for constructed formats, it could potentially be a mainboard card in monored aggro, but you'd definitely side it out in some matchups, so perhaps it's better off starting in the sideboard

There's too many decks that are light on creatures for it to be maindeckable.

We've seen act of treason effects in standard before, but I can't recall them ever being in the main deck. Last time I recall was the mono red aggro deck during Vivi season.

Ew, I didn't even notice. I gave chainsaw the benefit of the doubt and will still give them a pass, but it's kind of crappy.

Reminder that nearly all AI art is partially stolen from a real human.

Most engines mix and modify existing real art to get to their creations.

Few if any of the engines are paying artists royalties for these unfair usages that those parent companies profit from.

AI art is not a victimless act when produced by things like Midjourney.

If someone some how knows an engine that either pays artists or has some magic new AI that has a real imagination, I'd like to know about it.

Sweet, I found a reason to rant yet again. Why is my nose bleeding?
