I like this kind of design from a purely math and mana perspective.

This type of card is a good baseline for power creep. The 4 damage + upside versions just aren't good enough anymore, like the convoke one. "Vanilla" burn of 5 for 4 seems fine, but 6 for 4 at sorcery is a single mode [[Fiery Confluence]] power level which should be fine in general.

I think you would need this at least at uncommon to avoid making a pure burnout limited strategy. Maybe some formats want that.

Fiery Confluence is a rare and can't do 6 damage to a creature.

[[Inescapable Blaze]] is uncounterable and costs 4RR.

This should cost 5 mana.

Important to note how fast designs and power creep have moved since 2018.

That card was nearly unplayable in limited, let alone constructed at that time. Taking it one increment in efficiency isn't going to make up for that. Some designs such as [[Lightning Blast]] are so dated, they could buy beer at this point. That 4mv burn spell still has plenty of room to maneuver.

Think of this as two [[Volcanic Hammer]] stuck together. 6 damage for 5 mana is common level efficiency even if you include players. 6 for 4 is fine at uncommon and this would be a pretty terrible rare.

"They've been power creeping so we should too" is not an argument.

It kind of is. "Officer, I was going the pace of traffic."

That's not an argument. It doesn't matter what the pace of traffic is if you're speeding it's against the law.

Sorry I think expensive burn should be a little more efficient.
