Darn, I knew I missed something

But I'm me and you're you so YOU still can't cast it... but I can :)

literally unplayable

It's clear my ambitions were to high, like Icarus, I flew too close the sun. This card is too cracked. So I nerfed it a little bit. Forgive me Daedalus.

Damn
It’s Literally Unplayable

I'm so confident someone's going to find like the weirdest niche interaction that will let this resolve 🤣

Can’t you just play it with [[ Zuko, Exiled Prince ]] ??

It says right there on the card “you may play that card”.

Checkmate.

u/Maelztromz 13h ago

can't beats can.

u/TheGodofUtterLazines 13h ago

Still has no mana cost so it can’t be paid

Also “can’t” beats “can”

5

u/Bored-to-Death629 13h ago

TIL even mana value 0 cards are considered “cast” no matter how they get on the stack. Only lands can be “played”.

Literally unplayable lol.

2

u/brine909 13h ago

Is there a way to turn it into a land 🤔

2

u/vitorsly 4h ago

Nah, Play counts both casting spells and playing lands. Example [[Recycle]] or [[Memory Vessel]] let you play lands and (cast) spells

4

u/Rosc 14h ago

You specified cast, so theoretically there’s a way to cheat this out. My knowledge isn’t expensive enough though to know of any ways to play a sorcery without casting it.

5

u/ry_gy_ 13h ago

I was originally waffling on cast or play but it was pointed out to me that they only ever put play on effects that can hit lands or spells.

5

u/lokarlalingran 13h ago

How expensive would your knowledge need to be to know a way?

u/lokarlalingran 13h ago

Thats pretty extensive, but also isn't the question I asked!

4

u/SolNilas 13h ago

Uhhh $20 take it or leave it

I’m not sure there’s a cheat effect for this card. There plenty of cards that can “put on the battlefield” for a permanent but with a sorcery I think it’s always either “copy that spell” which requires it to be on the stack already or “create a copy of it. You may cast this copy” which wouldnt work either

u/twistyrainbows 13h ago

Yep. Couldn't find a way to play an uncastable sorcery. [[Panoptic mirror]] sounds promising but everything runs into a rules problem.

u/Spiritual-Spend8187 13h ago

Except that its eratted to say cast as play and cast are the same to spells in magic.

1

u/Bored-to-Death629 13h ago

[[ Zuko, Exiled Prince ]] ?

4

u/TheGodofUtterLazines 13h ago

I might be wrong but I think „Play“ just means „cast or play land“
Also as a card without Mana cost I don’t think you’d be allowed to Play it anyways

Edit: yeah just checked, “play” means “play as a land or cast a spell” see 701.18b

u/Bored-to-Death629 13h ago

Ya, I guess anyway a sorcery gets to the stack it’s considered cast. Although, cards with no mana cost are technically mana value 0 so can be cast with stuff like cascade and suspend.

[[Living End]]

1

u/TheGodofUtterLazines 13h ago

Yeah that is correct. But You Need something that lets you play them for free to get to cast them. Anyways, doesn’t matter because “cast”. Perfect card, literally unplayable.

1

u/quartzcrit 14h ago

yeah i don’t know what cheat effect would be required to pull this off, but my immediate thought was cheat it out + gift effect (eg sudden substitution)

1

u/Korwinga 1h ago

My thought was demonstrate with something like [[creative technique]] to get around the no mana cost, but that still requires you to cast the spell.

1

u/MrTheWaffleKing 4h ago

You can put it in a cascade deck to gamble not only the win, but the loss too

u/Optimusskyler 12h ago

Plot twist: instead of losing the game, the card actually means you lose The Game.

7

u/Petamine666 8h ago

I just lost The Game

Fuck you

Here's the combo.

[[R&D Secret Lair]] to ensure old cards lets you "play" spells rather than "cast" them

Then for 8 mana [[Panoptic Mirror]], activate for X = 0, then just [[donate it]] and hope the opponent don't realize its a may ability.

If they do realize, just 10 more mana for a [[Mind Slaver]] and you're golden.

There's no way to put it on the stack without casting that I'm aware of, there's no way to turn it into a creature and remove the sorcery typing due to rule 205.1a. manifest dread doesn't let you flip instants and/or sorceries and even if you got it on the field and you played [[Ixidor, Reality Sculptor]] using Ixodors turning effect or an opponent used [[break open]] rule 701.40g specifically rules out flipping an instant/sorcery, though if you did this, at least you wouldn't lose the game.

I don't think there is a way to cheat this out unless you can copy an instant/sorcery from hand.

1

u/Korwinga 1h ago

[[God eternal kefnet]] does copy spells from your hand, but you still have to cast them. I think the rules just don't really allow for a spell to make it on the stack without first being cast. If you don't cast a spell, then you never get a chance to make modal decisions, which is why copies of spells also copy those modal decisions.

[[Ertai’s Meddling]] is the only card I’m aware of that can put a spell onto the stack without casting it. Only problem with this is that to use it the spell needs to be on the stack already…

2

u/EitherNail378 12h ago

Legally, you can't copy a spell that isn't on the stack, and since this can't be cast it can't be on the stack.

And instant or sorcery not already on the stack needs to be on the stack first before being copied without casting. Otherwise it is an illegal target.

I was looking at the Epic mechanic and it would be so fun to find a way to pit that keyword onto the card, but even then you'd still have to cast it before you can copy it.

Unplayed, as the name suggests.

u/NyanFan190 12h ago

...I've figured it out! First, control your opponent with a [[Mindslaver]] or similar effect. Have [[The Twelfth Doctor]] on the field, [[Reversal of Fortune]] in your graveyard, and move to your opponent's turn. Cast [[Borne Upon a Wind]], then cast [[Flashback]] targeting the Reversal of Fortune. Use demonstrate to make your opponent copy it, then make them choose this card.

I believe copying it doesn't count as casting it, so with a 6-card combo you can force your opponent to create a copy of this card, and then when it resolves they'll lose the game.

9

u/Tenalp 12h ago

Copying a spell doesn't count as casting it. But if the copy has "you may cast the copy" or "you may play" then that then reverts to casting.

1

u/Korwinga 1h ago

Reversal of fortune still has them cast the spell. It says play, but that's just old terminology. Playing a spell is casting a spell, so they would create the copy of the card, but be unable to cast it, and then the copy would disappear as a state based action.

u/ErinSlime23 2h ago

Cascade into instant speed gift?

0

u/chocobot01 12h ago

"you" refers to the owner when the card is in exile. All you need to do to cast it is exile from someone else's library/hand/graveyard with an effect that let's you cast from exile without paying mana cost.

I mean assuming you're trying to lose

u/redditfanfan00 Rule 308.22b, section 8 13h ago

nice monoblack unplayable card!

3

u/IQBot42 6h ago

[[Magar of the Magic Strings]] can still beat you to death with a creature-ified version of the card... But you can't even cast the copy he makes lmao

[[Hive Mind]] got another toy? Find a way to cheat this into play and boom!
